I think I've just liked 3 of your posts in a row, you're full of good ideas today!
If they have the Maori, then Earthquakes have to be included because the only part of Aotearoa that doesn't get earthquakes is Auckland / Tamaki Makaurau (sic), a city built on volcanoes.
And they did state that they would have accurate continental plates, so mountain ranges would be expected to feature earthquakes.
Also it is pretty central to some parts of the mythology of the Maori people.
My proposed list of strong contenders whose abilities may be updated to interact with any of the new systems:
Netherlands - Reclaim coastal flooded tiles
America - Something with National Parks
China - Canals provide extra gold
Egypt - Build river flood protections earlier
Indonesia - ????
Australia - Oceanic flooding protections earlier
Persia - Unique governor?
France - Earn diplomacy points through espionage
Macedon - Earn half as many grievances
Greece (Pericles) - Double diplomacy points through CS
Egypt - More diplomacy points through alliances
Cree - More diplomacy points through alliances
I would suggest that the Maori may have the unique governor of "The Environmentalist" given their recent legal first recognition of the Whanganui river as a living person, and other cultural taonga.
Canals too. Roosevelt Corollary screams Panama Canal as well.
In the gameplay video, we can see at 45:44 that 8 civs were chosen. Ed said all civs chosen suffered some change, and we can see England, China, Indonesia and Zulu, there were other 4 civs which wasn't shown, we one of them we can safely suppose that is Russia. So, there are just other 3 civs which were changed.
edit.: Ed also mentioned Australia. So my bet for the other two civs: Egypt, with some bonus to flooding rivers (like the buildings and improvements don't suffer damage from it) and Neetherlands, with a bonus to help them against the rising of sea level and something related to dams.
He also mentioned Australia was in that game.
8 is the standard number of civs on a standard map so I don't think it mean anything other than atleast 8 civs had some Changes made.
Indonesia could work with the volcanic mountains system
You what mate? Aus are experts at destroying the environment.
I was trying to extrapolate from three known pieces of information:
1) Australia has likely had some rework
2) Australia gets huge buffs to settling coastlines
3) Settling on coasts is now somewhat dangerous in the late game.
I’m thinking levees, not necessarily protecting the environment.
Australia's new ability: is allowed to destroy natural wonders for profit
Yeah, I got no idea eh. Just came back after someone showed me there was a new expansion with the Māori
Bonus coal. Can sell to China for extra money.
Norway ignored...they're trash tier right now.
How do you know that they are ignored?
They haven't said a word about earthquakes, and neither does any of their marketing
I hope they upgrade all the weak Civs. Egypt, Japan and the Vikings especially.
OH AND GEORGIA, the worst of them all. Must have suppressed that memory...
Call it a hunch.
Norway could/should get bonus in the future era. If they just made Beserker an upgradeable unit available at Cartography they would be awesome.
Now that we will have 4 sea going naval enhanced civs - Norway,England,Indonesaia, and Māori island maps become more competitive. If they could get a Pangea map with islands in the middle of that giant sea and that has places for canals (and bridges?) that would be amazing.
Separate names with a comma.
