I was just wondering if any of you guys have seen two computer civs get into a war against each other without your own interaction. I hope it happens. I have played a few, but havenet seen this yet.

Ive seen plenty, I watched one civ get squashed by two others, and a continent invasion.

The one plus about this game is that the game no longer is all the computer players allied against the human player. In my last game England was getting too aggressive and the mutual protection pacts that I had drew me into a war with them.

England was alone against the world and it was a race to carve up the old empire between me and around three other countries. The countires with the most resources were able to launch successful attacks with the poor resource countries getting the scraps...

After the destruction of the English there was a three way power struggle to the end. The struggle was mostly due to enemies trading resources with each other in order to build up forces against each other... of course why they would trade with each other at this point is crazy but... that just may be an argument for wider resource distribution

I have seen some. In fact, in the game I am playing now, I was at peace with the Russians and planning to take one of their cities to the south in a few turns. The Aztecs marched through my territory, attacked the city, and captured it. The fog of war covered the city, so I couldn't see who was defending it, but I could see the aztec soldier animations. Pretty cool.

Those aztecs are brutal. In my current game, although they were on a continent on the other side of the world, they declared war on me getting two countries that border mine on thier side. They barely even fight in the war, just sending over frigates to bombard my cities. Then when I finally make peace with all countries and thiers, the very next turn they commence naval bombardment again as if the treaty meant nothing. They even give an excuse for breaking the treaty, something to the effect that I was weak for signinng the peace treaty in the first place. They eventually get hurt pretty bad by other civs leaving them with but a few cities yet they still send over an occassional ship.

Yes, the aztecs are a real pain in the butt : they just don't know when to stop... Good thing they never learned how to use nukes !

Okay, now hear this. I'm sitting back bathing in my cultural glory, while 3 or 4 vics declare war on my southern neighbor for no real reason other than to destoy germany. By the time the indian elaphants are through, the nation is split among the aztecs (who are now after me), the Japanese (who recently aquired samuri and whom I attacked for a resource city that had been german), and the Indians (who are leaving me alone). I'm holding my own on that front while the aquisition of iron has enabled me to produce knights which are trotting to victory (by avoiding those pesky samuri). Then all of a sudden I get hit in the back by the English who'd been sitting to my west this whole time building knights and musketeers. Yippee, I'm dead. Before they can take down that CULTURAL core I've built, I talk the Japanese into assimilating all my cities into their culture (ZEN BABY). At least now they'll not have to endure any British occupation.

Wow. That must have been some kind of negotiation! Sounds like it was a fun game.

In one of my games the Persians just CRUSHED the civ next
to them (I forget who it was). They even allied with the Germans
and they helped. At one point they had 6 battleships bombarding
the same city. It was rather impressive. The downside is they
turned on me next.

it's about 500 AD, and I've got a fairly lame civilzation, and had fought defensive wars against the egyptians and greeks earlier.

Well, the egyptians have a crappy little outpost city near one of MY crappy little cities (pop 1, wonder of the world, mega culture). and they send a bunch of guys south (through my territory) and attack the Romans.

This of course starts a war, and send a HUGE mass of legions north (thru my terittory) going to attack the egyptions. And a HUGE wave of chariots going the long way around thru my civ to reinforce the crappy little city.

It's all very interesting. I'm tempted to order the Romans out of my terittory just to give the egyptians time to arrive. :)

I've found that the computer AI can be very opportunistic. Case in point is the game I'm currently playing. I'm using the Germans and on a large continent I had the Russians to my west, the English to my east, and the French and Romans to the south. Fortunately for me, I was able to expand early so I had a good chunk of land to work with. I have scientific and military superiority (only one who was remotely close were the Romans) - which the Germans should have given their CSA. Anyway, I got into a trade dispute with the English which led to a war I was not really prepared to fight. So to help stem the tide of English knights streaming into my territory I asked the French to assist me - which they did. Next thing I know, it's a race between me and the French to claim London, Bristol, Leeds, etc... With the English gone, I turned to the Romans. As soon as I declared war on the Romans, the French did too! Another race was on. I currently have no pacts or agreements with the French. Right now, I've got the Romans pretty much crushed and have massed some artillery and infantry near the Russians. As soon as I sent my units into Russian territory, the French declare war on the Russians as well! I'm far more advanced then the French (my infantry and artillery vs. knights and spearmen) so I'm not concerned about them turning on me - I'm going to wait until I get Panzers and then whup on them something good.

Yes, I have seen english troops marching over my territory
by dozens to attack the romans on the other side of my kingdom.
they faught and died by dozens, a roman city being sieged and conquered, just to be reconquered by the romans
a couple of turns later. Quite impressive.

Yup, it happens all the time.
And yes, the AI is opportunistic.
It's interesting how warfare seems to sweep the globe, engulfing everyone.
The Industrial and Modern ages seem to have frequent World Wars. Cool.

Yep, game I'm playing now, the aztecs are separated by my own contentinent from the germs. Those two go to war, and they commute to it via triemes through my coastal waters. I've been watching 3 aztec triremes go west to east, answered by 3 germ triremes going east to west, for several hundred years now. Thing is, you'd think the AI would figure out that it can't support extended operations like that over long distances.

All I got to say is, that the aztecs are a pain to have against you in the early game.

They are to the south west of me, india is to the north of me and persia to the east of me.

The aztecs decalre was on the indias bringing the persians againsts the indians, then the babylonians then the english then the french.

Now after hundreds of years, the indias are holding their ow against this massive invasion.

The problem is the aztecs are sending warrior after warrior through my territory, dozens of them.

Well I think, hey the aztecs are beaten down, maybe my swordsman army can hurt tham and in the process gain the indians as a friend.

First I do is get the japanese(south of me) to attack the aztecs then the persians, well, what do you know, 24 jaguar warriors will kill 12 swordmen in a very short amount of time.

It wqasn't just the warriors, by then they had horses and the warriors would hurt me, run away and the horses would clean me up.

The japenese actually sent about 10 spearmen/archers to my boarder with the aztecs and helped me defend, now that's an ally.

It was all for nought though, the aztecs macked on me the japs and the persians.

That was my first game.

I learned a valuable lesson.
Dying sucks.

The AI is very efficient in killing a civilaztion once it's army is gone.
