OECG#96 Something Fishy about the Incas.
Emperor difficulty, standard size, a Great Plains start, and you begin next to a nice big puddle. There's room round this sea for several cities, giving you nice safe trade routes. And in the middle of the sea is a surprise: The Great Barrier Reef. You'll even find a spot suitable for Petra. Go wild. Generate cash to buy the UN, turtle to a Science Victory, or use the start to take out all your enemies. And your friends. Enjoy!
This was a hard one for some reason! First play-through, I went Liberty and settled about 5 or 6 cities. Gave up in the atomic era; I was behind and the AIs were declaring war on me constantly, 2 at a time.
Tried it again. Tradition 4-city, the fourth one kinda late but it had plenty of food and I sent it trade routes so it caught up quickly. I might should have settled one more to the east by the wine. I started building settlers as soon as I hit 2 pop, and still had to declare war on Portugal and sacrificed a scout to keep her from settling GBR before I could get to it. (I lost a scout, she lost a settler, 2 warriors, and maybe a worker I don't remember. But that didn't set her back nearly as much as I expected) Things were going okay until mid-game when Portugal backstabbed me and declared war; while I was dealing with that (effectively, but slowly) the others pushed-through Autocracy as the world ideology, embargoed the city states, and embargoed me (Maria proposed that one.) Because I had no oil, I beelined Ballistics and then Stealth, but I probably could have defeated her with just rocket artillery, bazookas, and SAMs. By then I did have a *little* bit of oil for a battleship, a bomber, and a couple of tanks. Eventually I took 3 of her cities including Lisbon. After that I pretty much coasted to a rather late science victory. Even without any external trade routes, my GPT was pretty good. I bought 2 of the space ship parts, and could have won 4 turns earlier by buying the last one instead of waiting for it to finish building in Ollantaytambo
Look how many cities Shaka has in the mini-map, LOL:
