Chieftain
Finished OECG#7 turn233 CV
I settled my first expo (Tiwanaku) far to the south because of the luxuries, the mountain and it seemed like a good defendable place. This of course brought me close to the Americans. The Americans where the biggest problem this game, they really wanted some more land and the Inca land was the closed. To make matters worse, I tend to build as few weapons as possible because they cost hammers and gold.
The first time Washington moved CB’s pikemen and a catapult to my borders, war could be avoided. I had 3 CB’s city walls and made some trades to improve Washington’s opinion of me.
The second time the Americans came to the border with XB’s and knights there was no way I could persuade Washington to go elsewhere. We had a fight, I killed some of his units and made peace to early. I should have killed way more units. There were a lot of antiquity sites in and around the American borders and I wanted all of them. Just when I was ready to dig it up, our peace treaty was about to expire and there were again a lot of American units at my border. I was ready to pay Washington a lot to go to war elsewhere, but just in time he decided to go to war with the Mongols without my persuasion, so the threat was gone.
After that I could comfortably turtle, Washington denounced me and proposed my religion as world religion in the same turn, which was nice of him. Despite our differences we stayed at peace for the rest of the game.
There was only some fighting with barbarians coming out of unhappy America.
All in all I did not miss the coal so much, for me the challenge was how to deal with the Americans.
Thanx for the game, it was indeed enjoyable.
