We're currently at 30% research, and still losing money.
Here are a few things we could do to get our economy going:

-work as many cottaged tiles as possible
-cottage more tiles
-sell 1 of our fish resources for 7 gold to Bismarck (after peace)
-research civil service to use bureaucracy
-build a new city on pink dot, so we'll get more happiness, so we can work more cottages
-build forges to increase happiness, so we can work more cottages

more suggestions?

Sell off cities? /joking

However..I honestly tink we cannot recover. Building cottages kills production. Its only a matter of time before our lovely neighbors decide tehy want out land. Adding another city will be detrimental to our short term economy but iprove our long term.

Can we change civics and help out...CS will double gold in BW.

I tend to agree with the esteemed robboo - it looks as though the trends are so bad that there is no hope. The only real chance remaining is to continue fighting against Bismarck, try to outsmart the computer, and hope for favorable outcomes from the Pseudo-RNG. Bismarck is never going to be weaker than at present - if he's too strong to beat, at least you go out in a blaze of glory.

Questions:
Is it to late for domination? What if we conquer the whole known world? Our population may be below the level needed...but we could then switch to growth after removing both Russia and Germany.

To even think about this we get need to run CS as a civic and start producing units. We systematically attack with mixed stacks and move on. No stopping to regroup or think about it. We have to do the attacks in correct order, ignore enemy cities that are not producing powerhouses...pillage and isolate then move on. Come back later or with healing troops trailing the main force.
Important points
1. This can be done with maces, spears and cats. Bombard, suicide cats, maces hit cities, spear protect and should be promoted as horse defenders. Horse archers pillage and kill units running betwwen cities.
2. We chop build the Forbidden palace in a city near Berlin. 2. All troops but coastal cites garrisons are thrown in the fight.
3. Every build is either a courthouse, a forge or a unit.
4. Whips will have to be used to either whip important units or whip to control overpopulation or unhappiness.

This is a last ditch effort..we fail at this concept we lose its thats simply.

///I have never tried this against 2 opponents...we need Russia to be neutral or side with us..then we turn around and backstab them. This will be no turning back once it starts to do so would hurt massivly...our economy will be shot. We will not beable to regain any sort of friendship with Germany. We win simply by overwelming numbers...every fight wont be in our favor. Their forces are spread our are in one tight cluster.

I'm not sure if we can do this.

Even if we beat Germany and Russia, we've got to hope that the others don't come calling for long enough for us to sort stuff out.

I don't think we can even beat Germany, which is why I support the peace agreement. Bismarck is getting further away from us from us on both the Power and Production graph. If we keep the war going, he will produce more and more units. What is worse, most of his are coming out with 2 promotions - some of ours have one, the others none. I think it is possible we could lose Basillica in 15 turns.

Personally I think to win this war with production levels as they are we need to average less than one unit loss to each of Bismarck's. Last turn we lost 7 for 5 even though we mostly did defending.

Can we bribe Russia back into the war? What would we give? Maybe all cities not capable of producing military units? Then we stab Peter in the back and reconquer those cities and burn them if he didn't manage to make a go of them. On second thoughts, that would be madness - we could be surrounded by Russia.

robboo, maybe your idea of selling cities is not so bad. Maybe sell them to Bismarck and then raze them. However, I think as paulhager says, we'll go out in a blaze of glory if we try this.

My remote hope of victory in this game was to do well in diplomatic relations with what I expect to be more advanced nations. However, I'm not terribly confidant about this, so maybe a blaze of glory would be better?

EDITED: typo

peace first and prepare for all war...is a reasonable idea...like sweet said..let our people come to religion. :)

I am only throwing this out there...we need a miracle...and there is my idea. I have never been in this positon usually only one thing sucks..econ or production..not both.

Backstabbing Russia is suicide, imo. There is no easy answer for this problem, but can we save Basilica without peace now? If we keep fighting, or even if we don't, a couple of cities have to go back to being commerce, NPC for one off the top of my head. CS is the obvious next tech, for military, civic, and farms.

Was the reason our little attacking force failed Bismark's horse, or his foot troops? We did seem woefully underspeared. What if we take the peace offer, head for CS asap, whip about 6-7 maces, and (I'm assuming we have some cats left) take them with spear escort... raze the lake city (Dortmund?), then head back N to the staging point for Berlin. Maybe not... my head hurts..... I also think we should try and pillage the horse resource.

We were definitely under-speared. We do have some cats, though I think we'll lose half of those if we don't get peace.
We haven't faced many of his foot troops yet, though there are some on the way. One of the other problems is that most of his troops have two promotions. Most of ours have zero or one.

BW can go back to commerce: it's quite far to the front so units built there take a while to be useful. There are several mature cottages that could be used that aren't. When pop :yuck: or  become a problem, they can be whipped away to make the occasional unit.

Cons: It has a barracks, and it has the most :hammers: of all our cities, IIRC.

Thoughts?

economy is important, we could use more advanced unit earlier by having a better economy.

Beurecracy will help greatly..but we need to make sure that BW is using it effiecently..favor units and hammer or commerce increasing builds over cultural

I don't think BW has built a cultural building since I have been govenor. Get the SoW to post a needs list and BW will spring into action.

lets just hope we keep the right person in that governors position then ;)

Let's refresh this discussion a bit.

I looked at the game (got that spare moment finally) and we're not too far gone yet. Our tech rate sucks which would be a long-term problem if we let it stay like that, but if we can recover the economy and then apply a better war strategy than our immediate neighbors, we can maybe save this.

Let's look at the economy. First let's address the defecit part. 11gpt is going to unit costs and 45gpt to city maintenance. We can't do a whole lot about the unit costs if we want a strong enough military to take on our neighbors, but we can definitely improve the city maintenance. We need courthouses in the worst maintenance cities, and the forbidden palace if we haven't already built it.

Action items:
  • Build courthouses asap, in the places where more than 2gpt will be saved
  • Build FP if we don't already have it
  • Look into what we need to do to get a higher units allowed level, if possible
Looking at the money supply side, we need a really strong commerce city. I only took a quick look, so don't know where we stand on this, but the way to do it is to pick the one with the most potential and cottage everything that we don't have to irrigate. If it has any hammer tiles that's a bonus but for this specialized city they aren't really needed. Then build all the commerce increasing buildings we can, and might as well build all the science buildings too. We might have to pop rush them if it's really hammer poor.

Address our military problem by assigning a small number of dedicated military build towns. Build forges there if we still need to (not all at once) and crank some hammers.

We'll probably adopt burerocracy (how the heck do you spell that anyway), so the focus for BW is a balance of hammers and commerce. Someone else already said that...

If we're going to pull this off, we need to focus every action of every turn on building ourselves up faster than our neighbors. We've got to give it our all if we want to succeed.
