I loved playing Outpost as a teen in the 1990s! Yes it was slow, confusing and buggy as hell.. but back then I was big on Sim City style games and the thought of building a new colony on an alien world was amazing to me. You could chose from a whole lot of alien worlds and I remember being amazed when I discovered that some of the planets surfaces were multi layered, meaning not only could you build a huge city/base on top but also dig multiple levels below and build lots of cool underground city stuff too!

Being a 16bit windows 3.1 application it does not run on modern 64bit operating systems however thanks to WineVDM I actually got it working a few years ago and was fun to hear the dramatic music, that computer voice and muck around with the old game again.

So I'm rather shocked to have just discovered today thanks to @MysticWind that there's a fan project remaking the game, not an exact 1:1 rebuild I might add, but still a very similar reconstruction of Outpost as you can see from the below media. One of the problems with the original game was that you could only see a very small part of the game world no matter what your windows resolution was and this remake appears to have solved that issue and now you can see lots of the planet surface in modern HD resolutions! Am definitely going to have to follow this one!
