Hi All,

Very new to the party but played Civ 2 years ago. Excited to find like minded gamers.

Some Caveats: I'm Noob level 0 (or 100 if that means super noob) so I don't understand almost anything in the command world or virtual drive world.

I managed to spend 2+ weeks trying to mount the .rar file and finally did it by accident (although I went back and did it again to sort of document it for myself).

I managed to install the game and got too excited for a 53 yo but at the end I got the notification the IVI_95nt was unsuccesful. Full of Gen X confidence I ignored that and pushed ahead.

I go through 7 civilisations/raging hordes etc, chose my civ country but as I hit the enter to move to typing my name it always drops out back to my desk top.

I googled IVI and of course it was niche to gaming and is no longer around. Obviously everyone else is playing, how did you all overcome it?

It's like I got a glimpse of what I could have and that's it. I looked in the forums but I don't see anything.

As mentioned I don't get a lot of what I read, I can follow instructions, my analogy is boiling water, if the instructions say get a pot fill it with water and heat it, you need to tell me where the water is, how to heat it and where the pot is.

Thanks in advance
Jeff Butternuts TL/DR help with an alternative to IVI_95NT.exe

Welcome Jeff! Glad you're all sorted! Hope you stick around to discuss the greatness of Civ2 with us all! :)
I've played solidly for 2 weeks, getting up to trying 'Prince', I'm usually a chieftan guy, so good, just like I remember it. It's taken over from Warcraft 2 for the minute.

Nice work on 'leveling up'. It's funny I've gone in the opposite direction in that I used to always play on Deity back in the 90s but these days I usually hover around Prince level too as I'm mostly doing scenario testing and don't want the AI getting in my way while testing lots of modded features lol.

Ahh well if you love both Warcraft 2 and Civ 2 then this thread on Warcraft 2 Civ2 scenarios might be of interest to you..

Which reminds me, I also got the itch to muck around with WC2 a year ago and looked into if there were fan made HD patches and remakes out there and found a few things that might interest you too..
