OW release date on Steam and GoG : 19th of May !

Forty bucks is high for a two year old game. Glad they're including the add-on (for two weeks, at least).

double grats guys! chuffed for you all

Wasn't it in open beta for a year before that?

Yes, it was in early access as part of development, I don't think that should count into the game's age in any way, otherwise you might as well count from the start of development.

It wasn't some Blizzard-style open beta players test a complete game in order for balance and other details to be refined. It was just part of development. Summer 2020, just off the top of my head, we didn't have major mechanics like archetype mechanics, family/religion heads, pagan religions, most character missions, tribal mercenaries or any interaction with tribes. It was very much in development.

Civ6 is still $60 USD for a really old game. I don't understand your point.

Note: Civ6 is $90 AUD for me so had to look up region prices on a non-Steam site to get USD. Just in case it isn't actually that $60 USD.

i mean, $40 is worth w/e 40 is worth to you, but, imo, you should look at with this perspective as well, regardless of how old the game is:

it's not a studio like activision, or ea, or microsoft, etc. charging high prices just to chuck some more gold coins into the swimming pool. it's an independent developer who's sale per unit is a larger proportion of profits and investment for them.

for me, chucking someone 40 bucks to help them make a living making cool games isn't a bad proposition, no matter the age of the game.

alternately, you could also think of it as investing in Old World 2: Medieval Boogaloo.

I can think of three reason for a game to be sold at a lower price:

1) Advertising. If no one knows about your game you might want to sell it for a lower price for the first month. This gets it into more hands, which generates more word-of-mouth.

2) Market segmentation. Your core audience will buy your game for full price. After they do, you can lower your price to sell it to marginal customers.

3) Obsolescence. If superior games have come along, your game might not be able to compete with them unless the price is cut. This is a form of market segmentation, based on money rather than interest.

None of these three reasons apply to Old World, therefore it should be sold at full price.
