Does anyone know if they are keeping the palace in Civ 4 they took it out of Civ 2 :( and it for me it was an unexpected surprise when they returned. Is it just me that likes them? Even though they don't do anything theres just something about them. :D

Erm Anyway..... what exactly do you have to do to get an extra section of palace? :)

Well they did do the city view thing in Civ2, but that was about it.

What do you have to do? That's easy, make your people happy! Although I've gotten additions in the middle of wars, when cities have fallen into disorder, etc.

Bah! What do I know anyhow?

Civ2 DID have the palace, although it was a throne room. I was never able to get the last few pieces though.

Really? Was it in the call to power version?

I guessed it was connected to happiness but was wondering how happy they have to be?

I guess most of you already know this, but:

Civ 1: Palace, kinda like civ3

Civ 2: Throne room, kinda funny, in the beginning you feel like you are giving it a personal touch :king:

Smac: Nuttin, absolutely no such thing.. BUT, a nice monument showing things like "first battle won" and "first wonder built" and such things... In my opinion a woopin good idea :D

    Civ 3: The palace..

I kinda liked the throne room, myself. I never got to finish it, either.

For all Civ games, the palace/throne room expansions were nice, but I ended up turning them off after a few games. I'd rather play. But it's a nice diversion.

They should take these palace and throne room sections off. Instead, the team should be hard at work making cIV be the best damn Civ EVER!!

Agree with everyone saying the Palace/Throne Room should go. So should the City View.

    Blasphmey! As the saying goes
    Warrior 10 shields
    Paratrooper 100 shields
    Finishing your palace priceless :D

I agree the game will always be the priority but things like the city view are nice little diversions especially for those who aren't "hardcore" civ players. A quality game needs good presentation :)

Yea, I agree with Phil, the palace and city view add a nice little "homely" touch to Civ for those who just aren't in it for the gameplay, but also for the graphics and eye candy. Personally, I know that I enjoy them.

Seeing as there aren't any problems with the palace and city view (Except the wonder graphics in C3C), shouldn't there be no problem just importing the code for the palace? (Forgive me, I don't know much about programming)

They should keep either the palace or throne room! Civ wouldn't be Civ without this feature. Heck if it were up to me I'd want Civ 4 to have BOTH of them. :p

How else to keep track of just how much my people love me? :smug:

I thought throne additions are linked to culture expanisions.

The programming for throne and city view was not that much. It's ok.

I did like the SMAC monument idea. So many good ideas from SMAC were lost.

Here's how the throne room looked in Civ2:

I know, SMAC seems like a prototype to test out loads of new features. They brought in loads of ideas into Civ3 from it and hopefully we will find more of them in Civ4.

Both the city view and palace are worthless (in my opinion) and I would not care if they were included or not. I just don't look at them so they do not bother me. However, with that said, they should remain in the game for the sake of those who actually like wasting their valuable playing time looking at this eye candy.

Agreed. I liked them at first, but I quickly grew tired of them and just turned them off. I don't think they should be taken out, because some people still like them, and they're a tradition by now anyway. But anything that constitutes 'neat graphics' that does nothing at all toward enhancing the actual gameplay, I personally get bored with.
