Considering I'm usually about ready to finish a game by the time I hit the year 1700 (or 1730s-40s if I"m really having a good time), I would not like a game which extends the end date, thank you.

Stupid messages in Hearts of Iron 2. I know I can set message settings, but they should honestly tell you when your stupid ally Italy takes over pretty much all of Africa (except the South) and then signs a frikkin white peace, making your job infinitely harder.

What's the difference between the games?
I read somewhere that HoI3 is a lot more micromanaging, and has like 100000 provinces. Whats the difference between Darkest Hour and Arsenal of Democracy, if they're both "spin-offs" (I wouldn't normally call it that, but I have nothing else to call it)?

HoI3 has tons of "provinces", but most of them are just terrain with nothing else in them. You get a little more tactical in the game and have more opportunities to use breakthrough divisions, encircle enemy forces, etc.

The only problem with HoI3 is the Russian front (it's absurdly huge, and I hate leaving the AI to do what I could) and British not garrisoning it's central provinces (makes invasion too easy). And then there is the problem that major balancing fixes for the game are released via expansion.

So before buying HoI3 and For the Motherland, wait a while to see if they are going to release another expansion. Or not.

    DH

    a) runs fast even on low-end computers
    b) has a VERY NICE new map
    c) has a good AI that's continually being improved
    d) has "decisions" (basically events that can be triggered through the menu)
    e) has a good trade automation system that works, so you don't have to worry about micromanaging trade any more
    f) has an 1914 scenario

What it misses are some things I really like about AoD (like the possibility of transferring captured provinces to your allies outside diplomatic deals and without the need to annex the country first; also the "Victory or Valhalla" order is just great).

If the best features of AoD and DH were to be combined, the ultimate WW2 grand strategy game would be born.

Does DH let you play the original game HoI2? Or is it just DH?
Whats the time period for DH?

In the launcher you can select DH Full, DH Light (HOI2 with some DH features), or HOI2. DH has two scenarios: 1914 and 1936; there's no time limit, but the interwar/coldwar periods are pretty barren event wise.

Speaking of Darkest Hour, does it have the same problem Victoria 2 has with a different checksum in Steam, or is it like EU3 where the checksum is the same no matter where it was obtained?

    A couple of questions:

    1) Is this the correct forum to post an EU-3 (Divine Wind) play-through?... usually called an AAR (After Action Report).

    2) Would there be any people interested in reading one?... the latest expansion (Divine Wind) has made some pretty big changes to the game, especially to Ming China and to the Barbarian Hordes such as the Golden Horde and the Timurids.

Would you prefer to see a Ming China game, where the main focus is on playing off the internal Chinese factions (the Bureaucrats, the Temple Militarists, and the Eunuchs) against each other? Or a Barbarian Horde game, probably as the Timurids, with the main focus on trying to civilize ourselves and catch up to the Europeans?

As long as it is funny and highly entertaining with a decent amount of pretty pictures I don't care what you play (as long as it is not Byzantium). However, most AARs here are from the European perspective, so China or Timurids sounds pretty interesting.

Since I stopped patching DW after like 5.1 I'd be interested in the Timurids if only because I understand that horde mechanics changed again and wanna see what's up with that
