I've read numerous posts how it takes 5 or minutes for the computer to make it's turn. Since the patch I've played on hugh 60% continents with 12 other civs. The longest turn in modern times was just over 2 minutes. I didnot do a full install as I left the music on the CD. I have a 500 mhz Pentium III over clocked to 600, 128 mb ram and a Ultra TNT II with 32 mb ram that is also slightly over clocked. I'm also running Windows 98. So you can see it's not the fastest sytem but the performace is just fine. Can it be the different OS and combination chip that is causing the slowness out there?

Win 98 is not a slow system. What era are you in, and how many cities did you have?
I won my last game on a huge world with 11 other civs.. At the end, modern era--won by UN--it took the comp 12 minutes to cycle through the AI, and 7 minutes to cycle through my 89 cities.
It took a little over a minute to add a conquered city.

Using amd t-bird 950, 512 mem, Win2K Pro
My current game it is starting to slow down some, with 45 cities, on a large world. 7 civs remaining.

I'm running WinXP on a 1 Gighz system, 512 Megs PC133 Ram, and an ATA 100 HD.

Just finished a game on a Huge island, 5 opponents, mostly scattered islands.

Towards the later half of the game, it would take 2-3 minutes for the AI players to finish their turns, and about another minute to just page through all my stuff.

Waiting about 3-5 minutes to play a turn is really frustrating. I've got patience, but sitting at my computer having to push 'Enter' everytime an advisor pops up during an enemy player's turn when they declare war, ask for trade, etc. makes it really tedious. It didn't help that since I was on an island, it would take 2-3 turns just to get a ship to another island. Simply getting any units anywhere to do anything (other than automated workers) was a 15 minute proposition.

Any tricks around for helping to speed up the processing of turns?
