Pericles the Culture Nut

Looks like Pawelo already has the next turnset covered. So i'll go after him. Good start etc. I'll look at the save etc. And make a dot map.

Same remark as in TLO2 thread.

Yap. My cell phone has a "copy and Paste" feature which saved me tons of time:)

Sure, it's a better start that our first one ;) Luckily, Airlborn got the assets locked and we could re-roll

If you wish, take the turn. I can play only in 12 hours anyway :)

Waiting for your message, checking after some sleep.

Nah you go ahead. I'm busy startng the Many Leaders game 3 anyway so i might not have the time. I'm gonna make the dot map now however.

I start the MLG3 too and know what you mean busy with ;)
Anyway, it's pretty short for the moment, the first 50 are quicker to play then 251-300 ;)

I'll go tomorrow asap and post ahead before noon GMT.

Cheers!

Took me an entire week to complete my last turnset in ML2

Thanks for noticing me in advance ;)

I will make sure to take holidays
Btw, this one looks promising...

Yellow Dot is horrible, but i put it out there anyway. I'd like to get Red, Blue and Green however. The only tile Green and Blue overlap in is a desert so i like the situation there. (note: Yellow dot is Coastal)

My instinct's tell me boudica is very close, so i'd like to get these before the we get the Green and Blue cities.

Well pretty obvious here. Which one do we want? Dark Red or Cyan? I say Dark red, as it get's as incense and 2 gold for the sake of 1 wine and 3 unworkable tiles.

And Brown is a given. I put in Peach as an option if we really want a coastal city.

I think there is too many unexplored tiles yet around most of the dots to be 100% sure!

I like the dark cyan though, but have to see what is in the dark up there first!

In the end of my turn set the scout was going west in the hope of finding Boudica hehe.

I noticed you didn't move the scout when i opened up the save. Care to do the honours? :p

As for the dots, red, blue and green are great cities. What worries me a little is lack of coastal for our commerce...

That's why I like peach a little more than the brown. Also, for my 2-gold dark red is highly more interesting than cyan.

I start to play it now, will report asap.

Going for BW, see if copper is around, IW if not. Otherwise, Oracle path.

No, that is turn 31, isn't it? I clicked enter by mistake I think, that is why I didn't move the scout, sorry! :crazyeye:

Or I just forgot to move him, and pawelo can do it :P

Oh, I said dark cyan? I meant dark red! All those colors...

Here we go for Pericles, part 2 :

I moved our Scout on the T30 (sorry Arlborn, it's not personal ;) ) discovering Boudica to our west.

T32
Warrior @ Athens -> Scout
It will fasten our scouting of what seems a nice patch of land. Also, it matches perfectly the population pop-up to 3.

T36
Our warrior, sent to scout to north-west, survived to a bear.
Population pop to 3 in Athens
Scout @ Athens -> Settler

T37
Our heroic warrior was killed by a lio, though on a forrested hill. But he was badly wounded by his last combat.

T39
Our west-exploring scout was killed by a bunch of grizzlies. Still, he managed to send us a pigeon carrying some maps of this region and a great jungle that seems to start there.

T42
(IT) Bronze Working -> Slavery -> Mysticism
Yes! No need to go for Iron, we have two copper ressources nearby ( not directly in Athens, but nearby )! I think some female neighbor will meet our minions pretty soon.
Here is our copper:

T45
We meet another buddy far to our east:

Some nice screenies for you to analyze.

1) ATHENS, the 1st LEGENDARY :

Settler is due in 3, but the worker ( which mined a hill waiting for BW ) is going to have his chop done in 2. I suggest to overflow into a warrior and move settler toward copper/deer/floodplain location.

2) SW maps and Boudica:

Nice lands too, worth to consider, especially the coastal line. I think Joao is nearby, maybe across this starting jungle. I haven't met him though before the scout became a grizzly snack.

3) Athens region and center lands:

I declare hereby the dotmapping open ;)

4) Far east - fertility and Qin:

Also pretty nice lands to expand.
We could have had much worse a start, don't you think ? We seem to be in the northern part of the globe, as tundras are to our north.

Techwise, Oracle-path for early GP.

We need 3 religions and better if we found them ourselves. However, Boudica being our apetizer and having Holy Buddhist city...

Also, we have to choose pretty early locations for the three legendary. I vote Athens and dark red to our east. For the third, haven't analyzed yet...

You're up TLO ?

2 production city + one SE city with decent production is normally what I choose for the legendary cities hehe. But there is always exceptions, like a city full of commerce and so on.

Just to clarify, how many turns until Athens hit next cultural stage? Because the bronzes are not really in a very good position, and the one to west might overlap with the dark red dot and has not much food, with a tundra north - plains middle - desert south setting. But it has cow + wheat, and may be not so bad... I prefer to explore the area around the bronze in our north though!

So, second city goes for bronze or gold? I think bronze for early rush?

EDIT: Ah, now I see that the bronze to our north might get a deer and one or 2 floodplains as well, not so bad then.

Athens has just popped third level, so I think we are up for a long wait before the next one.
As for me, the best "early" rush option is to settle 2W of the deer and chop the only forest into a monument. It still gives us a city with some potential, though not a legendary one.

In the meanwhile, we get roads done to copper and wait for Sparta's pop to mine it asap. If we still have time, I would get a second worker up in Athens to pre-chop axes.

Yep, I do agree with you. But we will be chopping phalanxes, not axes, no? :king:

Shame and disgrace on me

Haha, it is OK. To tell you the truth, I forgot the special abilities of a phalanx!
I can't access CIV right now hehe. Was it a bonus against mounted units as well? ;)

50% vs Melee & 100% vs Chariot.

Hope Boudica will retaliate with those wheeled stuff ;)

Phalanx now replace axemen i believe. So i'm up? ok. But which city are we going for?

I'm guessing Blue and Red.
