I'm not exactly settled on it yet, but I think I will leave CivFanatics' Civ VII forum and stop watching gameplay and other news until after the release of Civ VII.

I started watching the latest dev stream last night and stopped about halfway. This morning I woke up and thought to myself that I wouldn't mind not seeing more of the game until I can get my hands on it myself. For Civ VI I did the opposite and lurked and posted here, went to conventions to play a demo early, and watched everything that came out.

Personally, I have not seen anything from Civ VII that I don't like. The leaders may look a bit bland, but I can even see them in the same diorama style as the map graphics (which are gorgeous), so I don't even mind that. The things I'm least excited about, I'm still okay with.

In general, I think I am just scared of going into the game having seen too often the different biomes, different civs and building styles, heard the beautiful music too often already, so I'm going to take a leave and try to discipline myself for four months.

I wish you guys happy sleuthing, and am looking forward to having a huge backlog to read when I come back to this particular forum, and seeing what all the modders will come up with (particularly @pokiehl and @sukritact. Was fun to hear a question from Sukritact on stream btw! :))

Considering it sounds like you won't even be back to read replies here, there may not be much of a point in replying but just to talk about the sentiment: When I'm sure I want to play and buy a game, I also often just then turn off from discussions and news to not spoil myself / have a more fresh interaction with the game when it comes out, specially if it is a story focused game. But then, sometimes I get so hyped about the game, can't wait to be able to play it, that I end up instead following any news and info to feed myself until release. So while I get your feeling, I will keep following news as I passed the hype point of no return.

Not me. Though I skip viewing all the screenshots. And yes, I found myself wanting to play around with the game and not really enjoying watching Carl do it. And I've been ignoring poring over the Civ bonuses, those can wait until I'm in game. I prefer to wait until release before really getting into the nitty gritty of the game. But I still like to keep up to date on any big rules changes and major things.
