[BTS] PH S21E01: It's a Dam, Dam, Dam, Dam World

Our tech path is set

I do a bit of city management and lose 1 turn from Industrialisation. Hurrah for me.

I play until it comes in and manage to trade Electricity for Medicine with Saladin and the tech race looks like this

It's not too bad. Radio and Rocketry are the only ones we would need. If we can get Plastics first, build the Gorges and Hydras we've won at least a consolation victory :mischief:

As for Aluminium, we don't have any but I didn't see any on the whole map!!!

nice turns all.

plastics, hydras, and start the Not Hoover. got it.

After the distraction to plastics, can we please head toward Space Elevator?

When I load up, Giza's the only city w/o CC; q one up when possible for it.

I make a tech order to get SElevator up and running:

Our workers were busy building RR and running repairs; by the end of the set; there were small teams of them either asleep or spot-fixing spy-destroyed tiles.

Liz built the UN. I first voted for Saladin just to hedge our bets a bit against Liz, but no one had a majority, and I abstained throughout the rest of my set (mayvbe one other vote?). We were at Friendly with Liz still, so no real harm there yet from the vote.

edit to add: Wall Street was done here, too. We jumped to +30gpt at 80% so doing well there now.

In 1923, our deal with Pacal ended, Plastics came in, I started Gorges, and Brennus DOW'd on Sally?! I'm not sure why, but I guess we'll see wht happens there. Maybe we can persuade someone to attack Liz?

Unhealthiness is getting a bit tough in some cities, so I'm built some Hospitals where needed and available. It was also good to let some of the cities grow some more, and we can throw up a few more specialists. Also, Science and then Gold buildings were prioritized, and the occasional unit for deterrence.

I finished in '25 just to end on a somewhat-even turn count.

Got it

1925 AD (0)
This came back quickly.

I give Sury communism for $880. I just don’t like the AI having that much cash.

There is still a high risk of another war. With the Military Academy in Thebes, I put it back on troop production. All cities on research scares me big time with how much Sury and Pacal hate us.
(IT) When I was thinking of war risk, I was thinking of Pacal. Sury just declared war. I think I jinxed myself by worrying about a war.
Liz wants us to give up plastics for useless fascism. I say no.
Saladin wants us to cancel deals with Brennus. Again, I say no.

1926 AD (1)
I burn all our cash on upgrades. I was originally hoping at some of it would fund deficit research.

1927 AD (2)
I kill some stragglers. Sury big stack is next to Pi-Ramesses. I’m hoping they do the typical stupid bombardment. I’m getting more cannons in there each to turn counter attack.
(IT) Our relationship with Saladin continues to get worse, as I won’t start a war with the Celts at this time.
I vote for Saladin to run the UN.

1928 AD (3)
(IT) Sury suicides 5 cavalry vs Pi-Ramesses.
Research completes on radio. Computers is the next on the list.

1929 AD (4)
It cost more cannons than expected, but I slaughter the Sury cavalry stack. I get another GG. Elephantine gets a military academy.

I can now start planning for the Sury offensive.

1930 AD (5)
(IT) The spy actions continue to be frustrating. Thebes gets poisoned water supply, and will starve some.

1931 AD (6)
(IT) We are screwed big time. Pacal declares war. Workers repairing around Alexandria are lost.

1932 AD (7)
I begin to move everything southward. I know Sury’s big stack has been destroyed. I still have no clue on Pacal, as only a few stray units crossed the borders.

1933 AD (8)
Sury still won’t talk. A large stack from Pacal is by Alexandria.
(IT) Now Brennus wants us to stop trading with the Arabs.
Our health took another hit with the fishing boats being destroyed.

1934 AD (9)
This is getting very annoying. Sury still won’t talk despite shredding his main stack.

We have dropped back to 6th place for score.

1935 AD (10)
I finally get a break, and Sury gives us $390 for peace. The cash is used for upgrades in Alexandria.

I don’t understand why I got the game with most cities on research. With how much Sury and Pacal hated us more wars were guaranteed. Military should have never stopped being worked on.

If Alexandria falls, the empire collapses. Almost every troop we have is in the city.

The resource situation continues to shaft us. With oil and tanks we could be much more offensive.

It took ages to explore the map. It took a long time to see what resources we had. With what I know now, this game has been screwed since turn 1. The empire has been to awkward and long.
Getting Sury and Pacal buddies really screwed the plans to weaken Pacal. The empire has NEVER had enough cities to be effective.

I was under the impression you wanted to beeline to the space elevator.

i also offered to finish the game alone several rotations ago, but here we are.

edit to add: i wanted to play an SG again b/c i wanted to have fun playing with people online, even if we lost. however, you just seem to suck the fun right out of this. you're reports are barebones, with no discussion beforehand or afterward, just scolding. there's never pictures. you're horsehockey attitude is just too much.

I really wanted to start playing some Civ4 games again. However, this also hasn't been fun for me. I'm seeing the game totally different from you two. I've been extremely frustrated since the defy the AP decisions.

you're ****** attitude is just too much.
With the above comment I'm dropping out. I won't be joining any future games from you, as it is obvious we just don't play well together.

Thread no longer watched, so expect no more responses from me.

So this happened...

Pacal has tanks and kept throwing them away at the walls of Alexandria. He eventually would take peace at the price of 2000 gold.

I stopped at that point and leave the clean up of the lands and economy to your dear pholk.

We should see if Liz is still keen on that defence pact as another war will kill us.

Robotics up in a turn or two. We should build the Space Elevator (in a city with all the production modifiers) and funnel research into Rocketry and Composites.

I've got it, but with the Three Hoovers Dam, in my heart, we are that ram from post 1.

i'll play tonight whilst my mac n cheese cooks for tomorrow, and we can dream of being space goats, exiled from our home world by a confederation of the mayans, khmer, and everyone else, a whole horde of them.

Spoiler I forgot to resize :

I got a bit bullied:

licked some spit, but stood up to this clown:

all the way on the other side of the map, trying to befriend me so vicky can kill me. stupid guy.

We got our 2nd GPerson, but i held off on the GAge. Maybe we want to save it for when we're building parts?

He's still asleep there, as is the Artist down in Memphis.

We experienced a fierce bout of climate change:

There were some resolutions, but all for things we already we in. I also found our neighbors' armies:

They're in Raj and Atwalla respectively. Maybe pacal wants his city back there from vicky?

We got one last event before satellites came in.

I built mostly units to field an army in the north so that we can defend in two places at once if need be. also, started a small dirigible force that perhaps we can upgrade to help with air support.

I started the apollo program in Pi-Ramesses (its 12 turns away), and once Sat came in, started teh Elevator in Memphis. I wanted to keep it in our safe corner. although, as i write this, i suspect the apollo program should've been in the safe corner. is civ 4 where you conquer the apollo city to stop the launch?? yeesh

so, anyway, as i hand this off, we are perfectly ok, and not losing at all. In fact, we're the 6th winner!!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone in the States, and Happy Thursday/Friday to the rest of you!
