PH06: One is the Loneliest Number!

Greyfox, you're probably right about getting the Prophet born in Rome, although a Temple in Sparta won't hurt with happiness there once the population starts getting larger. Now that we can rebuild fishing nets in Rome, we can hire a ton of Priests there and increase our GPP/turn to improve the odds. Without sufficient food, Rome can't compete with Sparta in GPP.

One thing the team should dicuss is our current plans. It seems our most logical next step will be to make Isabella a widow by eliminating Hannibal. But what do we do with Hanibal's cities? He has two clusters, one west of Russia, the other north of Russia between Saladdin and Isabella. We're approaching his smaller, southern cluster now and Russian culture is already stealing tiles from Hannibal. I vote we raze the first city in line, Thapsus, then see if we can keep the next one as a healing base in the center of the continent. It will be expensive in terms of maintenance and in production of culture buildings to prevent it from flipping to either Russia or Spain.

I think Frigates and Galleons are going to be needed to fight any more wars, both for the bombardment of coastal cities and for movement of troops. Going west to east over the ocean will be a lot faster than going east to west over land.

"I'm a little verklempt. Talk amongst yourselves."

nice set, Frank! I actually don't think we should keep any cities. We'll most likely lose the culture battle unless it's FAR removed from either Spanish or Russian cities. We could heal in russia or neutral territory if need be. Not the best plan, but i think a city would just eat up maintenance costs and flip to soemone else eventually.

I can't argue a good reason to keep any Carthaginian or Spanish cities except for healing. Let's just make sure we keep General Beast safe -- he's almost as good as a city. We might consider not promoting him to Cavalry just so that it will be less likely he'll defend if he's in a stack that gets attacked. Besides, it's unlikely he will be back within our cultural borders anytime soon so upgrading him may be moot :)

Turn 339 (1604 AD)
Hmmm, i'm feeling like a snack. How bout some M&M's?

I started off MMing Rome for 2 sci, and no eng. Went to Cumae, MMed for a bit more growth. Noted that Neapolis should only build commerce buildings as long as their available. Why a forge in corinth? It's only got 8 hammers. swap that: Corinth begins: Bank I swap an eng for sci @ Sparta, and hire 2 scientists @ Seoul & Pyong. I also replaced the drydock w/gran @ Pisae ( Pisae begins: Granary )to whip next turn. This city is still small enough that it should whip in all it's bldgs for now. However, note that I didn't  the next person SHOULD though (do as I say, not as i do! :nono: )

The forge is also restored @ corinth ( Corinth begins: Forge ). Since we'll have 1/2 price factories, i think they're necessities. I MM Kolhalapur for more growth, Lahore for more prod, and a final re(d)MM @ Rome: 2 priests, 1 sci (I saw the sign!); eta 42 turns to GP

Did you say asso asso asso?

Same post as in RK-07

What the **** is this.
My PC is such an ass.
I played my turns last night, everything working perfectly, now i'm trying to start Warlords to check some stuff.
And then I get THIS:

OK, no direct problem, I remember most things, i'll just upload the save then, well geuss not, My Warlords map is empty?!
God, I so hate computers sometimes.
Conclusion: Skip me untill I post that everything is allright, i'm most likely going to reinstall both CIV4 and Warlords because i had problems before.
Sorry to have delayed the game again, seem i'm having a stroke of bad luck in everything ATM :).

Going to reinstall the game tomorrow, but i'll let you know when i'm able to play again :)

Well, first job I did was to whip cities whenever I can, especially if there is red-shirts lying around. I looked at the situation ... not very good. I don't think we can continue this war ... not when the other side is showing up with infantries, while we barely have produced any cannons.

Also seeked ways to increase our money ... here are the trade I (re-)negotiated:

lonely-AD1640-trade-upgrades.jpg

We are not dead-last in power ...

lonely-AD1643-powerful.jpg

Funny how all the wives are high up with power, where their husbands are way down (Asoka-Lizzy couple being the only exception). Sally wasn't even worth mentioning on the list ...

And I really don't know what the AI are doing ... They amassed a stack, and then all they do is tpo spread them out, waiting for my pickings ... ... not that I am complaining ...

lonely-AD1646-spread.jpg

Most of the enemies were soon eliminated, except for one musketman which escape back to Pyongyang. Speaking of which, who wanna bet how many turns it will take for that city to flip over to the russian *****?

I decided to teach them how to properly do an attack, even though its against infantries ...

lonely-AD1649-infantry.jpg

It can be regarded as a :smoke: move on my part, but I have every intention to do it again ... those troops are too far from home, they are eating up maintenance, and they are obsoleted. I rather waste them to raze an enemy city, then to either haul them back for upgrade or let them sit there doing nothing but consuming gold.

So, after wasting all the trebuchets and half of the troops, the city was razed:

lonely-AD1655-razed.jpg

earning us 180+ gold ... good, and I use 70gold from these lootings to buy us a 10 turn peace (Izzy still wants a city, but fortunately, unlike RL, a deal struck with the husband is good enough in Civ4 ):

lonely-AD1655-peace.jpg

Our war efforts earn us a general ... and of all places, he must turn up in Rome :aargh: ...

lonely-AD1646-general.jpg

I moved him to our production powerhouse, and have him idle there:

lonely-AD1652-general.jpg

I would've have him build the Mil. Academy or settle as Instructor, but it is up to next player.

I wasn't sure where the intended target for the new settler is, but I decide to go grab the gold mine, and two incenses. There is adaquet food with the two flood plains ... I hope!

lonely-AD1661-new-city.jpg

I would suggest the next player to build up a pile of cannons + cavs + rifleman and start hitting on Asoka+Lizy again.

the settler was SUPPOSED to go to the ruins of the Indian city north of Rome, but India resettled it a few turns too early. Otherwise, good set.

though it seems you're horrible luck is following us to this game

Cosmichail has gone OOP in at least one other SG I visit. I pray he's doing okay. I'll give him some more time then pick up the save and skip or swap with him if he returns soon enoght.

oh, i thought so...i hope he's alright too ~ go for it, then, if you get the chance today or tomorrow. no need to wait, i don't think.

Inherited turn (1670 AD): I took a tour through our cities. I didn't see anything to change but made a list of needed builds and improvements that I think would help them along:

Rome: work boat and temples so more priests can be hired
Antium: work boat (done 1694)
Neapolis: work boat
Corinth: work boat but it'll get pillaged again when we go after Asoka/Vicky
Seoul: work boat (done 1673)
P'yongyang: needs lots of worker cycles -- had been completely pillaged
Pisae: work boat (done 1673)
Lahore: culture buildings (or capture of nearby Indian cities)
Ravenna: lots of worker cycles

Once again, our cities felt small to me because of the necessary whippings that they've had to endure. I decide to lay off the whip if possible. I also plan to build piles of Cannons, Cavalry and Riflemen as suggested by my illustrious predecessor.

IBT: Catherine adopted Emancipation, the witch.

Turn 1 (1673 AD): Cumae trained a Cannon, started another(3). New Athens trained a Cannon, started another(4). Both Cannon headed east to prepare for the liberation of the two intruder cities: Estrucan(Vicky) and Chittagong(Asoka). I decided to direct General Belarius to build an Academy at Cumae for the 50% boost in production. The 3 :culture: the Academy provides will also help our new city-Ravenna-stave off English and Indian culture.

Pisae and Seoul get their needed fishing boats. I gave orders for our wounded units on the other side of Russia to head home before healing. They noted that Catherine has already settled the former Carthagenian lands. Did she ever say "Thank you" for helping her out so much?

Our Jewish Missionary spread religion to Ravenna.

Turn 2 (1676 AD): We discovered Steam Power, revealing that we already have a Coal Mine at Antium. The extra hammers are quickly assimilated into the citizen's work processes.

I chose Corporation because our scientists plied me with their dreams of researching Assembly Lines, whatever those are.

IBT: Yuayna Capac adopted Emancipation. I started wondering if I should have chosen Democracy instead.

Turn 3 (1679 AD): Neapolis trained a Cannon, started a Drydock(8).

IBT: Hatshepsut adopted Emancipation and Universal Suffrage.

Turn 4 (1682 AD): Rome trained a Frigate, started National Epic(6). I presume it's become our GPP farm. Cumae trained a Cannon, started a Rifleman(2). Sparta trained a Rifleman, started a Cannon(9).

The borders at Ravenna have expanded and we now possessed two Incense plantations. Pretty kewl. I traded Incense for 9 gold/turn from Victoria. I love trading Happiness resources to AI that I'll be attacking soon -- it's an extra red face in every city for them when I declare ... heh heh heh. In that same vein, I traded Silk for 8 gold/turn from Asoka. We're now at +6 g/turn at 80% research.

IBT: Catherine birthed a great scientist, Hannibal adopted Bureaucracy, Organization and Representation.

Turn 5 (1685 AD): Antium trained a Cannon (putting that coal to good use), started a Work Boat(3). New Athens trained a Cannon, started a Cavalry(6).

IBT: Our Peace Treaty with Hannibal expired.

Turn 6 (1688 AD): Cumae trained a Rifleman, started a Cavalry(3). The miserable citizens of miserable Kolhapur constructed a Granary, miserably started work on a Courthouse. What a miserable site for a city.

IBT: Well, getta load of this. Have Vicky and her biotch been reading over our shoulder?
one37.jpg

Vicky's cavalry captured two of our Workers at the gold site at Ravenna. Asoka's Cavarly killed one of our Cannon that were streaming into Lahore (if 3 cannon can be called a stream?). His Cannons reduced our defenses in Lahore to 16%.

Turn 7 (1691 AD): We discovered Corporation.

I told our scientists to put Assembly Line on hold and go for Democracy. War Weariness and Emancipation Envy are a nasty combination.

Seoul trained a Cannon, started a Galleon(9). Pisae constructed a Harbor, started a Frigate(6).

At Ravenna, our Cavalry killed the worker-raiding English Cavalry. The only other unit she sent is a Redcoat at a forest, heading for one of our Incense plantations. I guess she liked the Incense so much, she decided to just take it from us. She'll pay.

The situation at Lahore was more complex. In fact, if Fox News were covering this story, Lahore would have its own theme music:

We had lots more units than that in the city and in the two tiles north of the city, plus our wounded veterans from the Spanish/Carthage wars were arriving at the city this turn. Was I a genius for hurrying them back or what?

Anyways, when the dust cleared, the big Indian stack was gone. We lost 4 cannon in the preliminaries. But we discovered a smaller stack in the fog behind them (they eventually split up and were picked off one at a time). The biggest bother besides those three Indian Cavalry at the right in the picture above, is my wondering what Vicky is going to be sending soon. We have a bunch of wounded, but veteran units at Lahore but they may be vulnerable when Vicky arrives. I feared I might not be able to launch an offensive on Bangalore any time soon.

Finally, here's what we can see at the two eastern enemy cities:

one41.jpg

IBT: Asoka and Vicky move units, seeming more intent on pillaging than actually engaging us. No counterattacks (whew).

Turn 8 (1694 AD): Antium trained a Work Boat, started a Rifleman(13). The workboat constructed fishing nets, hoping some of the Indian destroyers that we've begun to see snag a prop in them, maybe?

At Lahore, we traded a dead Cavalry with Asoka, eliminating one of his pillaging threats. A Rifleman killed another of his Cavalry outside of Corinth. Then we turtled up to heal but maintained a position on the Indian forested hill outside of town. At Ravenna, the English Redcoat was killed, costing us a Rifleman.

IBT: An Indian Cannon attacked our stack on the hill outside of Lahore, 2 Indian Riflemen cross the border outside of COrinth.

Turn 9 (1697 AD): Cumae trained a Cavalry, started a Rifleman(3). I dispatched the Cavalry to kill one of the Indian Riflemen outside of Corinth. I whipped a Rifleman started last turn at Corinth. We're a bit light on garrison there, losing a Rifleman to kill a pillaging Cavalry. P'yongyang trained a Cannon, started a Worker(15!).

IBT: We lost a Cavalry outside of Bangalore to an English Cavalry and more English troops were seen starting to arrive there. An Indian destroyer killed our frigate outside of Estruscan.

Turn 10 (1700 AD): Rome constructed National Epic. It's pumping out 27 great people points each turn now. Next person is due in 5 turns -- 44% odds of it being a Prophet. Rome started work on a Rifleman. Corinth trained a Rifleman, and went back to work on a Bank(40).

Our promoted veterans at Lahore began picking off English Cavalry and Redcoats outside the city. I've been peeling units out of Lahore to advance on Bangalore. The bombardment of that city can begin next turn.

My sense is that we've seen Asoka shoot his wad but we've yet to see Vicky's main punch yet. And can this be right? In three turns, we've earned 106/150 points for our next Great General? We haven't been at war since the last general was born, right?

Here's the save: His_Loneliness_AD-1700.CivWarlordsSave Good luck!

Great turns, frank!

Yeah, I am suspecting some agression from Asoka+Lizzy soon ... I hope you re-deploy our troops well ... which is something i did not do :p

Nope, some of the GG points should came from the previous war ... we got the GG at 1646AD, but signed peace at 1655 (after I wasted 2/3 of our invasion forces to raze that Hannibal city).

 Indian Destroyer??? English Machine Gun???

Geez ... Are people now regretting that they demanded the difficulty be raised to Prince?
