Philosopher's CS Slingshot

In one game where I had to try for a philosopher's CS slingshot (playing a philosophical civ), I found that I had to research theology first, while ignoring masonary, and only then could I use my Great prophet for research toward civil service. I wonder if there is a short way of accomplishing a philo. CS slingshot.

Are you sure you skipped Masonry?

To use a Great Prophet for Civil Service, you need skip Masonry and Alphabet, and, of course, research the requisite techs for Civil Service.

Oh, I think I see what's gone wrong here - maybe you mean Feudalism via Priesthood rather than Theology? 'Traditionally' the Masonry-free double slingshot goes (1.) Code of Laws > (2.) Civil Service.

I got the impression that masonary should not be researched for CS slingshot from Grog's post (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=173650). Anyway, I will it with masonary next time and see what I get.

You're right in that researching Masonry will open up Monotheism and steer you away from Code of Laws and Civil Service (provided that's what you want).

The confusion came from researching Theology while ignoring Masonry (it's a prerequisite to Theology).
