I think I spent about 20 minutes on my first turn last time around. :p

It was mostly specialists, we had a lot of spies, IIRC, which are the first ones added by the Governor when growth happens. I remember going around and adding engineers to all the production cities and scientists to all the commerce cities.

Honestly, when I know the game is in the bag, I have a tendency to micromanage much less, so if for some strange reason this gets around to me again, expect a mess :D

Note to self: Don't play in any more succession games where we're not allowed to raze cities :crazyeye:

actually, if you remember, we're in a war right now ~ Hannibal pillaged our east coast there near Aachen and Pholkington w/his destroyers, and Rammesses pillaged up north.

And, yes, once the game only relies on producing units and crushing the opposition, my MMing goes right out the window as the trade off for the time spent on our countless cities and the benefits of MMing isn't worth it. But that's just me. So go suck an egg ~ ;) :)

Chances of me opening a city screen and MMing at this stage of the game. Approximately zero. Playing tonight.

I spend a few minutes perusing our position. Looks all right except for a few cities that we probably will have flipped on us. I'm going to try and get through 15 turns.

We start the war again next turn. Is it just me or do the odds for cannons winning seem to be wrong as I rarely have one win unless the odds are over 80%. We lose plenty but take Utica.

I realise we have unescorted transports on their way to the front and cover with a destroyer but Hannibal sinks the escort and some of our lovely tanks

Win many battles (miss many screenies).

WW is running hot. 13 in the capital. I raise the culture slider, build jails and Mt Rushmore to see if I can get it under control. If not, Police State for us.

I give Ragnar Oea as we will never own any of the surrounding tiles.

Ramesses breaks free from Hannibal so I get peace with Ramesses. I decide I like being at war with 2 AI so declare on Ragnar at the same time :p.

I trade Ramesses for incense and silk for more happiness to get rid of more war weariness.

Some more battles are won (and more screenies missed) and decide to play 17 turns :p.

    Get peace with Hannibal

    so that...

So the slowest moving SG in history comes to an end . Well done to all. :goodjob:

    And the replay is attached.

    Awesome!

    Comments:

Landies are pretty cool, but really, Spearmen can win with enough Siege.

The Rathaus didn't seem to be as good as I tohught it would. We were stuck at 30% for most of the game, really. And Bindamel, if you're coming back for PFS02, I don't know if Zara razes cities.

 My first (real) succession game win!

And it was a Pholk game besides! :mischief:

Oh, and don't tell anyone Quotey, but I got a sneak peak at the Zara variant rules:

    Spoiler :
No more than 1 excess food in any city at any given time.
All of the Great Artists will be named Sally Struthers. For each Sally Struthers sitting unused in a city, you may run two more food.

All the opponents will be the Italians (Gilgamesh of the Italians, Montezuma of the Italians, Justinian of the Italians...)

We must attempt to trade for every food resource in the game.

[aside]The wiki article for Ethiopia and Zara is fascinating, I really need to read more history. It's pretty bad that my first two thoughts when I hear Ethiopia are Sally Struthers and Starvin' Marvin[/aside]

After playing this game, I have a new found appreciation for the landies, they weren't as crap as I thought they would be. Disagree with Quotey though, the rathouse rules, we may have sat at 30% research the whole game but we would have gone bankrupt with out the rathouse. 30% of a large empire beats 100% of a small one any day and throw in the increased production...

I thought Churchill was the next PFS?!

That's not right ~ i changed that further on as the idea developed.

Churchill is next, and I'll post some prelim thoughts maybe tonight or tomorrow. PFS02 will start next week, most likely 04/14 or 15.

Great game all, even if (as oz points out) it was slow-moving at times. I really like the landknechts, if only for the flavor, but it has CR promos, so it ain't all bad.

also, i think the rathauses are what made us able to stay at 30% sci and not lower. We had a LARGE empire, imo, from teh very get go ~ i don't think i've expanded that much EVER in the early game (and not crashed my empire that is). All in all :goodjob:

finally, i definitely think the religion/shrine-powered, overexpansion and Dom victory are a good match for Charlemagne. I hope to coalesce my thoughts into a general strategy for posting at My Corner at DM.
