I must say that settling on the blue dot seems to me a better idea by now.
We lose a FP winning the river. And we have a better potential site for Vienna or Prague to the north (cow/FP). Plus, we don't lose a turn moving.

in fact, I do have a planning thread.

ahem, so back to the game, settling in place or 1 north? and we've got 2 votes for in place (counting me).

So, after all this, FINALLY, the PFS is underway

I founded on the spot so as not to waste any more turns.

I started with a warrior first and onto Polytheism for the religion, as well as sending our scout on walkabout to discover our lands.

A few turns in, we got lucky:

We survived a lion onslaught, and met our first neighbor:

Our scout kept on exploring, found some neighbors, fought some animals and popped a few more huts: one for experience, one for gold and another for:

Sweet! Classical age in 3600 bc! Nice. A few turns later, we fulfilled one variant rule:

2 turns later Buddhism was founded, but not by our Wang. After this, I went with the Wheel, though I think that was :smoke: as we could’ve used Mining first. I chose Wheel on the way to Pottery for some REXing, but we’ll need to chop beforehand anyway to put up some cottages (and to chop out a quick settler or two). Also, Masonry will be good, too, for Stonehenge for a GP early on (to help pay for expansion). Not much else happened.

I stopped after 30 turns as that’s when the Wheel came in. Oh, and we met another whacky religious neighbor:

Finally, after our first warrior, I built another and then started on a worker. Also, I didn’t revolt to Christianity yet.

Here’s the lands I was able to scout out:

Wang is so close... so very close....

Did you convert? Did Monty found a religion?

I've always hated that if an AI founds a religion it'll switch to it almost certainly. I'd assume we'd want to convert most of the world, as Charlie is a religious nutjob. (+8 for shared religion? Come on!). I'm not sure about him in real life though.

Question: When you popped AH why didn't you switch to a Worker? Or even do worker 2nd? Is this some kind of Monarch thing, or some kind of Pholk thing? :p (I think it's okay to take jabs at you until I'm playing)

Nice luck on the hut pholk!
Like to get this one started. I would advise leaving Wang, even though he'is close. He'll be such a nice fellow to steal from

I am RL overhead - got a worldwide sales kick-off event for four days long of meetings :suicide: - civless for 48 hours already and for the next 72h... As it starts nicely, can you put me further in the roster so that I don't stop you for too long ?

    Sorry
Go ahead Oz! You can do it!
(btw - I met some countrymen of both of you pholk & oz - cool guys!)

i did not convert, and as no one else did, i don't think monty or wang found a religion. i didn't swap b/c all we had was a scout, and felt we needed a warrior. then, as it was only a few more turns to pop2, i stuck in another warrior in the meantime -- no 'thing' at all :D

i like that idea, though perhaps we should get a little higher in pop before the settler in order to better take advantage ofthe shield bonus for settlers. either that or wait for BW. i would say play until Masonry pops (should be around 20 turns i think)

oh, so our countrymen were cool. i KNEW you couldn't've been talking about oz :yup: ;) :) also, roster updated.

Still, I sense you must be someone cool too (must be cool enough to get your ankle broken while playing cricket :D)

    @pholk

Same about you, except the cricket thing ;)

Howdy. Charlie's the name. Some call me the clown prince of Europe. Others (mainly those pesky Prussians) call me the illegitimate spawn of satan.

I'm here to tell you of my adventures in PFS.

The first thing of interest that happened was that I met this sexy Asoka chick, I could really do her an Aachen Surprise, if you know what I mean :yumyum: :groucho:

Anyway, we exchanged numbers and went our seperate ways but she'll be back. The ladies they love Charlie

A hut gave our scout some experience. Reminds me of a joke I know.

Q: What do you give a 13xp scout?

A: Guerilla I

Actually, I think it loses something in the translation from Latin.

Then the finest Holy Roman minds figure out how to bang rocks together to break them. Our mothers express much pride.

Our deity, Ron of the Stone(r)s, wants Aachen to grow before we expand our empire, so we throw another warrior into the mix. He can escort our new settler.

We get another warrior from a hut as well.

We find the lands of the madman with the talking skull. No shame in being completely mad but a talking skull, I mean really :p

Our story ends as we discover that breaking the stones can be done with finesse. Many projects are available for us. Bronze Working may be the best.

As I leave you, I share an old Central European saying with you. "Don't forget to switch the barracks to a settler next turn and queue Stonehenge up after the settler.

    Amen

You were greatly inspired Ben of the Ozland

I would just disagree on you gender detection - Asoka was a man :D
Well, you can still head for a Aachen surprise regardless :p

    BW is ok for me.
Will be a difficult rexing given the AI on hand.

By the looks of it i'm up in which case "got it" and will play tonight, its morning here and they won't let me put civ on the works computer:(

Quick question on Rule 1; when do we have to have our special buildings, ie as we have masonry do we have to build walls now or can we wait...

PS how many turns, 15,20,25? if the latter any ideas or comments on 2nd city placement or do we wait for copper to show?
