Physical copy of SMAC - how to get it working?

I've acquired a physical copy of Alpha Centauri but can't get it working. I've seen a few links to a 4.0 patch, but every one of them I've found is dead. There's a win2k compatability patch which requires 4.0, and that is acquirable, but no use without the other patches. Without any patches, the game just does nothing when I run Terran.exe. Any links to 4.0 or other suggestions on how to get it working would be appreciated, thanks.

Aha, found a patch finally (search for SMAC, not the full game name). Now to work out WTF I'm doing

I could have sworn that that site was dead when I was initially looking yesterday - but managed to get it from there eventually today. The UK/US version of the patch worked

Just purchase the complete game (SMAC) on GOG for $5.99.
Works great on Windows 10.
