The Civilpedia mentions that pillaged tiles are "rendered temporarily useless." Does that mean they will redevelop? I have a pillaged academy from a barbarian and would hate to have to spend another great scientist (if I get one) to rebuild the academy.

Any thoughts?

It means you can repair them with a worker. Exactly for that reason I suspect, that if an Academy/manufactory/monumentthingie gets pillaged you won't lose out on that GP you spent building it.

Perhaps it was a fluke but the only tile I've had pillaged I placed a worker on and saw no repair option.

Ok, I will have to go back and take a look, because I didn't see an option to repair (unless you have to wait a certain amount of time before that is an available option).

After my worker finished a farm, I sent them back and was able to "Repair" (hammer icon) the plot.

Click around on your worker's advanced options, it is there somewhere. I just used it to repair a burning trading post, three turns.
