For me - we meditated in the morning. We are planning to go to Zoo in the evening. I bought sweets for my mom and myself. We are cooking dinner right now.

    Greeted two friends already.

    Happy Valentine's everybody! :)

My plan was to go to work and then come home. I went to work and now I’m home.

It really makes life a drag
    I don't think that's right
I've really been the best of fools
I did what I could, yeah
    'Cause I love you, baby
    How I love you, darling
    How I love you, baby"

We'll be spending six hours in the car together today. After going out for breakfast, we'll be heading to Canada for the weekend. We're not going to rush, but rather take it nice and slow and stop for lunch somewhere too, and then go out for dinner.

Depending on where you go in Canada, be aware that you might run across native protesters and people sympathetic to them (the fight is actually about a pipeline in British Columbia but the protest has spread across the country). So don't expect to get anywhere by train, if you'd planned to. Train service is basically shut down across the country (they're literally blocking some tracks or are camped too close to the tracks for the trains to safely pass them), and there have also been blockades on streets and bridges in some cities.

We stopped going out on Valentine's Day weekend a long time ago after waiting 2 hours to eat at a few restaurants over the years. It's just not worth it to go out and celebrate V-Day usually due to all the crowding.

This year, however, my wife has a 4-day weekend from both work and grad school so we decided to take a trip up the scenic coast. We're staying in beautiful San Luis Obispo and tonight we're going for a sunset walk along the hills and will have a picnic and some wine. We're spending the rest of the weekend hiking and at the beach and will take the train back on Monday. The train ride itself is unbelievably gorgeous and is our main 'activity' on those travel days. And unlike air travel, it's comfortable and relaxing, in addition to being scenic.

Same thing as every other year. Nothing it's a con.

Every day is Valentine's day or should be. Why do anything when every other idiot has the same idea?

Technically I cooked dinner but I've done that every day this week. I think she cut a pepper. Also vacumned, cleaned the toilet, did the dishes and cleaned up cat puke.

Sometimes the ritual and mass participation are what people value about it being a holiday. Nothing wrong with that.

We more or less go out weekly for dinner. Valentine's day everything's crowded and it's just a pain.

As I said every day should be Valentine's Day.

buying heart shaped pizzas for the kids. Then my wife got me this stupid gift that's a book with scratch off labels like they have on lotto tickets that have surprise activities you can do. So it's like a bunch of date ideas for us. So tonight we have to make a comic strip of our lives and only use chinese characters for captions. It sounds so stupid but she wants to do it so hey.

Edit: I think the gift is stupid cus I hate surprises. Can't wait for one of them to be like go in a hot air balloon or something and I'll just be like NOPE. Not happening.

Wife and I are working today, we'll do some gifts at home this evening and then cook a nice dinner. We have a bunch of people coming over tomorrow evening and we have to hit the road early in the morning for a friend's baby shower so we're trying to keep it a bit simple tonight so we don't trash the kitchen cooking, since after dinner we need to do some last second cleaning and de-cluttering. Luckily most of it is done.

Bought flowers for the tellers at my bank. :grouphug:

My wife is in St. Louis and gets on the Southwest chief tomorrow; she's home on Sunday.

    Wooo Wooo and clickity clack
The Southwest Chief is on the track
Chugging along under a starless night
And a new Mexico dawn at first light.

They might as well rename it Chocolate Day.

I happen to have three chocolate chip cookies in the fridge. They will not survive to midnight.

And that's all the observation I ever do for February 14. I haven't even given in to the temptation to buy this really cute card from the Penguin Place that has a baby Emperor penguin holding a bouquet of pink flowers.

I lit a candle for my wife, had pizza, now I'm going to get smashed.

    I hate Valentine's Day.
