Play CivIII without a CD-ROM drive

Hola! My shiny new EEE PC begs to play CivIII, but naturally I cannot play it with a CD (as there is no CD-ROM drive)! I used my external CD-ROM drive to install it; that much worked. However, it won't detect the CD from the drive so I cannot play. I also don't really want to lug around an external CD drive any time I want to play!

So, could you please help me out getting CivIII to work without the CD? I have tried no-cd patches from all across the internet, but they all are from GimpsRus-which do not launch the game at all for me :(

Thanks!

P.S. I know there is no warez discussion allowed here. So I just wanted to make it extremely clear that I'm just trying to play my legal copy the only way possible! Thanks!

Edit: This is for version 1.29f :)

Never mind! It's apparently not the no-cd patch that is the problem. It's the game itself with the EEE PC resolution.

So, could you please ignore my entire first post and perhaps help me get Civ3 running on my EEE PC 1000ha?

The problem may be that Civ3 requires a minimum resolution of 1024x768. From what I see, the EEE PC1000 has a resolution of 1024x600.

It simply might not work.
Thank you for your reply :D However, I cannot accept that something technology cannot be tweaked to work ;)

Luckily, my persistence paid off. With the help of The_Kid from EEEUser.com, I got it working: http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?pid=470200

I'm so excited :D If anyone in the future wants to get an EEE PC working with Civ3, just check out EEEUser.com and ask around!

Well, that's the solution I would have expected, if it were possible: get a tool to set the EEEPC resolution to 1024x768, and then play it. ;)

The game will not run in less than that res.

:)
Yep, there's always a way to hack technology to make it work :D
I'm so thrilled it's working; I played it for like 5 hours last night ^_^

Anyways, thanks, and Happy New Year :)
