Can someone explain this? Go to Program Files->Infrogrames->Civ3->Text->Play the World.

What the heck? Text for PTW intro in Civ3? I'm sure there is a normal explaination for this, but I'm pretty confused.

I looked, and it just means they had already decided to name PTW when planning on a future expansion pack for multi-player.

I am far from computer literate, but it appears to be a internet connection related file.

Yah, it mentions servers and such. Apparently they included the PTW intro screen in Civ3 (or at least the text for it). Why would they do this? Odd.

They might've had some test function in the program already...

They knew they were going to make an expansion, with MP. With this discovery by cgannon, it shows they already had the name ptw in mind.

There are several files, if you look around, that are "useless" for Civ3, left in by the programmers.

Even seen the "Jeff Morris as military advisor" intro movie?
Its in the art folder, and you can rename it so it plays instead of the regular start-up movie. Its funny.

It's Jeff BRIGGS as the Military Advisor, not Jeff Morris.

The "Play the World.txt" that ended up on the Civ III disc was actually something else entirely (something we decided not to pursue), and contrary to popular belief, it does not mean there's some hidden dormant multiplayer code in Civ III.

It just so happens that when it came time to select a name for the Civ expansion, a lot of the right people liked the name we had been using for the other thing, and it just stuck.

Hey Dan - thanks for the the insider info. It's always good to hear from the source on occasion.

So ok, there's no dormant multi-player code. So what is it? What's it doing there? You say that it was something else entirely, "this other thing" - what was the "thing" in question?" If it wan't pursued, why's it still in the code? Did it get "stuck?"

    Inquiring minds, as they say....

Thanks in advance for filling us in.
