Playable start or not?

Trying to figure out if I am just still in the learning process or if this start was not good. I was having trouble getting food to get pop up to get my science going.

I've included the save if anyone wants to give it a try. There's a lot of desert involved. Deity, China.

It could work, but terrain pretty poor for growth. This would be challenging. I may play it for some experience.

Thanks for the save Tabarnak. Different approach than I took and was actually more along the lines of what I was thinking I should have done after my attempt.
