I noticed that I tend to favor other civs just because of its name. I usually ally with America, England, and Germany (I am usually the French). I also go to war with China and Babylon at least once a game. I could go to war with Germany and England, but I end them asap. I never went to war with the US. Does anyone else do this or is it just me? Maybe I am just too into NATO.
I do feel some regret whenever I am pulled into a war against America due to an MPP. And I did feel kind of weird about nuking New York, but that's about it.
Yeah, when I first got the game, I refused to play anyone other than the Americans. Then, when I finally did play another civ, I didn't have the Americans in the game, so I wouldn't have to destroy them. But after awhile, you get past the name, and view them as just another civ, and judge them by attributes and UU's, rather than by name, or real-life opinions of the civs/countries. And now it's alot more fun for me. Although my trigger finger twitches when I see some of those persian city names (the Afghanistan ones).
I do have a strong bias - but it`s not the Civ nmae, but rather the leaders character.
Lincoln, Lizzy, Jean - they just piss me off.
Bismarck - yeah, he`s a nasty bugger, but at least you can trust him to be one.
Shaka - not the smartest
Mao - took twice his alottment of smart pills, so beware
and so on. i end up fighting the wrong civ because I expected them to do better/worse....

Hopefully you are not talking about the real France. Most of the people I know in my area (the northeast US) actually like the French or at least more than the British and Canadians. French class is a pain though, even though I'm French. By the way, I would like to point out that I am from Long Island, New York. So, I am not a New Jersian.
As the Germans, I went to war with both France and America. I destroyed France, and didn't care. I am being like Bismark, because of my stupid demands and passage violations just to anger the other civs.
I find the Americans and Egyptians as my mortal enimies because they seem to be the ones that colonize my tundra squares.
Thus, when I met them as the English in my latest game, I swept over their island, destroying them and the Persians in around 15 turns using 30 horsemen.
I go out of my way to destroy the French as soon as possible. That way, I won't have to bail them out a couple of times versus Germany only to later have Joan refuse me a right of passage to bomb whoever my personal Libya happens to be. (Just kidding).
Normally, if the level I am playing at permits it, I try to form historic alliances and battle with the historic enemies of the civ that I'm playing. If I'm Russia or America, the Cold War definately heats up once nukes are in play.

Of COURSE! (For me anyway)... I don't like nuking New York, or attacking America. So I either play as them, the Germans, or the French. (Sometimes I play England). My victims... Er.. Opponents, are usually the Zulu, Egyptians, Persians, Chinese, Russians, Babylonians, and sometimes the Japanese.

so talking against french, like die french scum is ok for you, but talking against u.s. international policy it s not ok. I can easily understand now the american way.
