Player stats, sales, and reception speculation thread

I suppose even the most stubborn nay-sayer would have to admit that the game has gotten better over the last few months.
I won't question whether the game has gotten better. I do, however, question whether the game has become good.

I mean, I bought the game on sale last week, but nothing I have seen in terms of gameplay videos on youtube has given me any desire to actually play it, so now I'm debating whether I should request a refund or hope that at some point I reach the point where I actually feel a desire to play it.

Maybe, at some point, you might just have to dive in and see how you like playing it for half an hour or so. You could still get a refund after that (and if you play online speed, you can even get to the age transition within in the refund period). Maybe you hate the idea of it more than the actual game, maybe your feelings are right after all. Who could know for sure without trying, and as you already have the game, it seems to rather easy to find out.

Yesterday was the first time we got more negative to positive reviews since the November patch.
There you go lol. I can keep the thread going.
It wasn't. That happened on the 7th. You mentioned the 7th previously too. 20 positive, 5 negative so far today. 80% positive.

We're still currently having the best 30 day, 4 week & 2 week review periods at 56.5% positive, 57.4% positive & 63.6% positive respectively. The 1 week positive % has fallen from a high of 68.9% positive to 61.4% positive. Another 11,000 peak day. First time that has happened on a Tuesday since the 1.2 update back on the 22nd April - 29 weeks ago.

You have to refund within 2 weeks so you might as well start it up and try it soon. Can refund as long as you have less than 2 hours played.

Yeah, that was sort of what I planned. Just haven't had the opportunity yet.

Because confirmation bias is common, I don't think this would change people's minds most of the time.

I'm glad to see recent reviews are trending up, however slightly. At a 35% discount, it is also the least expensive it has been so far, but still basically the same price as an ordinary full-price game for the standard edition. For all the content, it's almost twice that. I'll wait a bit longer. It also seems the design of the game is shifting at the moment.

I think someone has mentioned there could have been on issue with the Steam API that day so the reviews have only been effectively retrieved the next day by third-party services.
Yes, I did see someone say that. I was just pointing out that I wasn't saying anything about the fact that there were more negative reviews on that day.

LOL, it really doesn't take much for you to get triggered.

My comment about negative reviews on the 10th, was a joke comment in response to j51's comment about the thread going quiet lol.

Oh and me mentioning the 7th was all about asking why there was a sudden drop of all reviews on that day.

I know all you want to do is trumpet out how well the reviews and player numbers are going now.
Well, lets see the overall count at the end of the month. After all, the 30 day average player count of 6879, is still lower than the counts for June, July and August. The positive reviews also seem to have dropped back down after the peaks of last week, so lets see if they continue to fall, or go up.
I just took the opportunity to point out that once again you were wrong.

Considering the peaks we're getting, I predict the 30 day average will overtake those months within a week. I also predict the November average could be around the 7,500 - 7,700 range.

How am I wrong? Am I wrong that it was so easy for you to get triggered?
Or am I wrong to point out that the rolling 30 day average is still less than 7000?
Like I said, lets see what the numbers say at the end of the month shall we?

You don't know what triggered means. You were wrong about first day since patch which had more negative than positive.

Sure, if you don't want to see the past 30 days which has the best positive rating since release and the highest concurrent player counts in 6 months, then we can look at the end of November. :goodjob:

I think the sale plus free DLC has undoubtedly given the game a bump, and the new DLC seems to be going down well with existing players. It hasn't been enough to make me jump back in and try (being able to stick with a single civ would) but its obviously been good for some players.

However, i am not convinced its a big enough bump to matter. I know some feel steam players online isnt the best metric, but its the only one we have really and looking at that it is still behind civ 5. I think its fair enough to expect the game to be behind 6, but not 5 which is such an old game.

When you say matter, matter to who? If it's Firaxis/2k/Take-Two, then what do you think the repercussions are of it not being enough to matter?

We don't have the total player data for Civ IV back when Civ VI released, it's possible VI also had less players than IV for some time.

Yeah, wonder why ..

Meanwhile Civ VI that old grand lady bats in with more reviews in a single day than "civ" vii does in a week and standing at a nice 89% positive.
This "version" is rolling down hill on fumes, I await the 4th age cash grab coming along , then my theory is this clone stalls.

Numbers isn't your strong suit, is it?
  • Civ VI reviews per day for last 4 weeks - 49
  • Civ VII reviews per day for last 4 weeks - 36
Clearly, Civ VI won't be getting more reviews in a single day than Civ VII does in a week.

Is this what rolling down hill on fumes looks like?

Yes considering the review % is still barely above 50 and the game has less players than Civ V.

It's 57.6% over the past 30 days, 63% over the past 2 weeks & 60.5% over the past week. None of 57.6, 63 or 60.5 are "barely" above 50.

Civ VI also had less players than Civ V for 2 years.

Also, Civ VII recently had a better reviewed week which was better than any Civ VI week for almost a year from early December 2016 to November 2017, most of Civ VIs first year.
