I've seen it mentioned elsewhere that you can't start out as America. In a way this makes sense because the load time would be a half hour. But what about switching to America later? I've never been given the option to take control of the Amercan civ when it spawns - is there a way to get this option?

I don't know if you are given the option to take control of them later (I've never gone that far into the game), but you could use the unlocked WBS files in the one of the sticky threards at the top of the forum. These files will allow to place as any of the civilizations starting from either of the starting times, allowing you to play as America with the World beginning at 3000BC.

Hope that helps.

You can play them with the unlocked wbs, depending on your pc it will take 10-45mins i reckon..for me it takes around 12-15mins with the unlocked wbs so its not that bad. If i remember correctly America spawns at 1732 and with out the unlocked wbs you will be asked to take control of them.

You can only switch civ once per game. If you didn't get the option it is because you already switched once, or you simply overlooked it. It's there 100% sure.

Yes, the option is there. I've switched to America quite a few times, but as Onedreamer points out, you can only switch civs once a game, so that's probably why the option doesn't show up.

One problem I've had, however, is that once I start playing America I can't directly load up a game: if I try to, my computer gets stuck on the same screen and never loads the game. (I'm speaking here after I've rebooted my computer and am starting a brand new session.)

However, if I load an old Rhye's game first, say of England, and then load the America game, it works fine. Strange.

Thanks, that did help. I wasn't familiar enough with the mod to realize the one-switch requirement.

Your trouble related to loading a game where you switched to America could be related to the lack of certain parameters such as unique historical victory. I'd imagine this too could be fixed with the unlocked files as mentioned above.
