It's been happening since a month ago or so. Whenever I play Civ for some time, my computer suddenly turns off by itself. Sometimes it restarts, sometimes it stays turned off, either happens randomly. Whenever it restarts by itself, it displays the message "power supply surges detected" and offers to setup either manually or by default mode.

This problem happens only when I play Civ V, altough I don't currently have any other current-gen game that has high-quality graphics. I did have many other games, like Skyrim and Fifa, that worked perfectly in this same machine (Civ used to work perfectly too). Do you guys have any idea of how to fix this?

I'm thinking you've got something a little more serious than a Civ V problem if you're getting that kind of message. Maybe a problem with your power supply. Which would be bad.

It could also be the computer overheating. Try running some heat monitoring software and see what's going on when you play.

Please elaborate... if the problem is with my power supply, does it mean it doesn't have a solution? And how do I run a heat monitoring software?

It would mean buying a new power supply, or risk frying your computer's parts.

For the heat monitoring, run this program, and alt-tab from the game after about 15 minutes, and periodically after that. http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

I tried playing in Directx 9, and it didn't crash. I think it's the high quality graphics that are making it crash, but why?
