I was curious with how this game (DG I) was going, so I downloaded it and had a look at the save. There's only 276 turns left to complete it and I was considering playing it out. I recall several others bring up playing it out as an SG and that would be fine with me. Any takers? I just wanted to check before I played it myself.

BTW, has anyone else finished this game?

I believe Donovan_Zoi wanted to play it out, but I haven't heard from him since.

I'll pm him than and see if he still wants too. I believe robboo was also interested so I'll pm him too. Anyone else that you recall?

BTW, are you interested dutchfire? Your post doesn't state an answer either way.

Since this forum will get archived, any problem with moving the thread down to the demo & team games forum? Also it might be a good idea to link in a save so they don't disappear. :)

That's fine and I can understand. One thing though, can you wait for a few days possibly? I PM'ed robboo and Donovai with the links to this thread and I'm unsure if it'll transfer over when you move it. Or at least wait until they show up? Thanks!

AS long as it gets played out I am OK with it. I dont have time for a SG right now. I am willing to offer advice and talk about it if someone does to do.

I'd like to, but I've been DP twice, and both times my computer almost died on me, so I'll have to pass sadly enough.

Well DZ hasn't answered me and his status is set to invisible so I can't tell when he was last on, so I'll just consider the SG game out. I'll play this out as a solo game and post my progress as I go. Please note that my RL is very busy, so I'll probably play this over the next couple of weeks.

If anyone is interested with helping to play it out as a small SG, pm me.

@Dave Shack: I believe we've waited long enough. Go ahead and move this thread at your convenience. Thanks for waiting!

DG 1 Last Save, 1738 AD

Having dropped out of the demogame a while ago I'm at a total loss to our current condition. So first things first, we look over the empire. It appears that none of the cities appear to be specialized in any way, as in science/commerce, production, GP farm, etc., so I go through each city and do a little MM'ing. After I'm done, this is the decision I've made:

    City Specialization-
    • Science/Commerce- Boaring Wallow, Abydos, Micalian's Gate, Auda City, Basillica, Const. Falls, New Port City
    • Production- Toot Uncommon(?), Old Sarai, Red Dot
    • GP Farm- Fort Impervious

To be perfectly honest, I don't like the list I came up with, but I currently went with how the terrain has been improved up to this point. With as many cottages as we have I feel our best bet is going for a Space victory, so decide to gear our empire towards all out research.

BTW, my build queue's are based off of how I see each city. In other words science/commerce cities get research and/or gold builds, production cities get forges, etc. If the current build from the save differs how I wish to set the city I let it finish if it is in a reasonable amount of time. If not, I nix the build for something that will benefit the city as I see it.

Civics: All the beauty of being a Spiritual civ. I immediately switch to:
    • Caste System- I like my specialists
    • Free Markets- The +1 trade route per city will help bring in more :gold:

Opponents: Relations don't seem to be the best, so I'm going to attempt to improve them.
      • Alex- Cautious (+3)
      • Bismarck- Pleased (+5) Potentially a good ally as he doesn't seem to have any major enemies. He's currently giving us 7 gpt for clams, but I renogotiate it to 13 gpt.
      • Mansa- Pleased (+3) He doesn't like us trading with Monte. I'm not really sure about him, as he doesn't really have very good relations with anyone. The thing is we have several trades with him so I hesitate to just drop him.
      • Montezuma- Cautious (+2) Monte seems to have a lot of civs upset with him, so it would probably be wise to remove ourselves from any activity with him. We currently have one trade with him (Crabs for Wheat).
      • Peter- Pleased (+7)
      • Saladin- Cautious (+3)

I fire the three warriors as our unit upkeep is way too high. I upgrade all the horse archers to knights and one spear to a pike.

      Research: Increase to 70%

      Do a little trading...

In all honesty, I really don't like this trade, but take it anyway. I need cash to upgrade troops as I plan on building up my infrastructure and would prefer not to mess with military buildup if at all possible. Peter already has Chemistry and is very low on cash, so I feel it isn't worth holding onto. I use the cash to upgrade archers to longbow and one maceman to a grenadier.

Well it's been almost three hours and I think I'm finally ready to end the turn. I believe I got everything. For those of you who are interested, here's the save after my alterations:

      Initial save after MM'ing

Old Sarai finishes her build and I set her to the Forbidden Palace. We need to lower our maintainence costs.

1746 AD: I would like another production city, plus want to use the dye and wheat south of Boaring Wallow, so both Red Dot and New Port City queue up a couple of settlers. Both will be complete in seven turns. Both sites I'm looking at won't be the best, but should benefit us enough to pay for their upkeep.

Working just the improved clams and wheat will allow me to run four specialists here and grab the incense. With Representation that's 24 :science:/t just from the specialist. Granted, switching to Representation will probably seriously screw up my happiness, so we'll go with 12 :science:/t for now.

Not the best site either, but it will earn me a base 18 :hammers:/t. I have the city radius set so it doesn't interfere with our other cities.

My main reason for settling these two locations is I need the extra happiness, beakers, and hammers. I've got the room, so I might as well use it. In the long term I believe the cities will earn more than they cost.

1750 AD: Crap! Mansa learns Replaceable Parts, which I was hoping to use as a trade. The bad thing is I seriously considered swapping techs, but you all had already started it.
IT- Monte comes along with this request...

He has too many enemies and Saladin is currently pleased with us, so I send him on his way.

1754 AD: We learn Replaceable Parts, only to find that Peter won't trade for it.

I decide to take a break here and gather my thoughts. Please take a look at the save and give me any suggestions that you many have.

      Here's the new save:

      1754 AD save

Do you think a diplomatic victory is possible? I might be faster than a space race victory.

I'm not sure. There are so many negative modifiers from our past actions I don't know if we could get enough votes. It is something we should look at. I was a little leery of considering it to be honest, but if people prefer it we can give it a shot. Plus, like you said, its faster.

If there's anyone who's good at Diplo victories wants to take a look at the save and give their advice, I'd be very thankful.

    @Dave: Thanks!

After looking it over I felt that maybe a diplomatic victory wouldn't be so hard afterall. Monte seemed to be my possible opponent for the UN vote and had the majority of the world upset with him. So, I decided to head for diplo instead.

I was doing great and Monte was doing his part by further ticking everybody off that he could. I just completed Mass Media and have started work on the UN when Monte drops off a stack of knights and dow's on me. Things are not looking good. I decide to take a break and come back to it later.

BTW, I'm playing this similar to a HoF attempt in that I've shut down research and cranked the culture slider up to 90%. All towns are currently being replaced with irrigation and production is being shut down. I still have several cities that are strong production wise so a military can still be built. I also may have enough friends to join with me against Monte.

It'll be a few days before I get back to this, so feel free to download the save and give me some suggestions. This is after all your game.

Here's the current save at 1868 AD.

No, nothing since what I've already posted. Your welcome to play some if you'd like. I'd enjoy the help.

    Edit: Thanks for the reminder.
