How does dual-gen entitlement work for PlayStation and Xbox versions of Sid Meier's Civilization VII?

Players that purchase any digital edition of Sid Meier's Civilization VII on PlayStation or Xbox consoles will receive both versions of the game across generations from the same family (PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®5, or Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S). Both games are entitled to the same PlayStation™Network account or Xbox Network Account.
The Xbox physical version of Sid Meier's Civilization VII utilizes a dual-binary disc that can be played in either a Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S to play that respective version of the game.
Dual-gen entitlement is not supported on physical PlayStation®5 versions of Sid Meier's Civilization VII. Sid Meier's Civilization VII is only available digitally on PlayStation®4.

Why are AAA games in 2025 still being released on hardware that came out in 2013?

Time to leave the last generation behind already, especially as we approach the current gen hitting the four year mark in a few months.
