TSFE 1.2 needs playtesters!

I finished the work with Axis medium level.

Before it will be released, I like put it to general playtesting. Maybe you can discover something more that needs to be changed or can give some good ideas :)

Well, I never got around to playing v 1.0 (the 10 Mb download scared me off) But I've heard nothing but praise for this scenario, so you can count me in as well: nick_dowling@hotmail.com (hotmail can't handle files bigger then 1Mb, and enforces strict mailbox sizes though, so you may have to send me the scenario piece by piece...)

Thanks!

The Axis version which I shall send to you by e-mail is only 482 Kb (events, rules, scn, new units). From Civfanatics you need to download:

Icons - 366 Kb
Texts - 161 Kb
Units - 584 Kb
Sound1 - 3,05 Mb
Sound2 - 2,79 Mb

Without sounds it is only about 1 Mb.

But I really recommend to download sounds also because they are wonderful, and you can't enjoy the scenario really without them. ;)

hey Marko, can you email the files to me again, i deleted them before i downloaded it :(

Sent.

I got interesting idea from Case post: what if I make Light Edition of TSFE?

Now TSFE has 13 different unit files, each for specific time period (about 120 different units), easy, medium and hard levels, 30 .scn files, many rules and events files for these etc. This why it takes 10 MB zipped.

In Light Edition there will be only 1 units file and 2 rules files (Summer and Winter). Also there will be less events files and I reduce sound files too. Also I exclude all scenarios which start later than May 1940 and easy and hard levels too (one is anyway too easy and second too hard).

Light Edition will be then only about 1-2 MB total and it is suitable for downloading with low speeds.

What do you think about it?

Sounds like a good idea marko. It would be better for people with slow connections. But i like the full 10MB scenario myself :)

OK, I played the first few rounds today, and it really impresses me. I am in february 1941 now. Took all of france except Marseilles, but with pretty heavy losses on my part. The Allies are holding on to Narvik, despite my attempts to drive them out.....
But the best thing is North Afrika. I lost all but two cities east of Tripolis before Rommel came...that was very accurate....puh!
So far the only major weaknesses of the AI are that the allies still do the "one unit at a time" landing in france, tunesia is VERY easy to take and the yugoslavians keep moving their units around well into germany and Poland...
Marko, do you want some savefiles? got october, september and february. I will play more tomorrow as I have a day off.
Sincerly,

Yes, send me your savegames.

In April 1941 all Yugoslavian units will be "transported" back to their cities when alliance is cancelled.

France is quite strong in spite of they don't get any free unit via events. I'm playing around with idea to allow negotiations between France and Axis/Allies. It is historical but takes much valuable event space.

Use Ju-88 bombers against Allies in Narvik. They must make clean work. :)

Good luck!

It's been great so far - fighting on a few fronts - Spain (had an interesting four-way clash with Portugal, Allies, Spain, and me all fighting over Madrid), Turkey/the Middle East, where I just conquered Turkey, Britain, where I've destroyed Portsmouth and keep harrassing London.

On Narvik - I whipped the Allies, using mainly Airborne troops.

Today I played on, and when I took all of France, the spanish declared war on me. Is this supposed to be so?
Whiped the yugoslawians off the map in two turns, without one plane attack. North africa is really hard.
I liked that iraqi uprising, but it is not possible to take a city....
Sincerly,

I find that fortifying units in Tubruk and waiting for reinforcements then attacking is a good way :) you need to provide naval support cause the allied navy will bombard your north afrika cities :(
Watch out for the Minor Nations they always declare war on me and hamper my plans for Barbarossa :(
Good job Marko!:goodjob:

If you want to hold North Africa or even make conquests then you have to send reinforcements from Europe.

Also important is the capture of Crete and Malta to reduce the range of Allied aircraft.

But on the other hand, if you concentrate too much to Mediterranean region then you have less forces against Soviet Union. :)

I want that TSFE is open-ended and has as few limits for player as possible.

This way as Axis you can research nuclear weapons and later build them. Also you can invade to Turkey, Spain, Sweden etc if you chose to.
Only limit is that you can't make peace with Allies and Soviets before 1946. :sniper:

But your ability to attack anybody means that Spain, Turkey etc can also declare war to you if they want. :o

Actually, I discovered the reason why "neutral" nations like to attack Axis. In events Axis is declared repeatedly as agressor with MAKEAGRESSION command. After all, the Nazis were agressors! But it means that Axis reputation goes down and AI players don't like it.

So I changed in events that Allies and Soviets are now agressors. Axis reputation will remain spotless during all the scenario
Hopefully it solves the problem.

In response to your comments I made some other changes to scenario too.

Now you can negotiate with France in Summer 1940. You can make peace or even ally with them and force them to declare war to Allies or whoever you wish.
Also I disbanded Yugoslavian tanks, motorized etc and replaced them with unmovable units. So they don't wander to your territory.
French defences in Tunesia are upgraded a bit (added a field fortress to each city).
Allied convoys which cross the Atlantic carry now Marines.

Before sending the new files to you I like to ask which diplomatic system do you prefer in TSFE:

1. Like now in scenario.
(Nobody can talk with anybody, except Summer 40, when Axis and Allies can talk with France; Winter 44/45 when Axis can't talk with Allies and Soviets but everything else is free; Winter 46/47 when everybody can talk.)

2. Like in scenario + Axis is allied with neutral nations - you can't attack them and they can't attack you.

3. Like in scenario + all AI players can talk with each other.
(They will likely start wars against each other)

4. All diplomacy is free except Axis can't speak with Allies and Soviets until 1946.
(Makes conquering small nations very easy because AI is stupid in diplomacy: you can take some cities and make peace, then gather forces, take some more cities and make again peace to avoid counterattacks etc)

5. Some other suggestion.

How are you doing against Russians? :tank: :)

Oh! Sorry! I forgot it...:D
