I get tired of this message in mid game.

City "so and so" wishes to return to the motherland, etc.... It would give the "blank" civ great happiness if you turn this city over to them.

Just about every new city I build in the mid game will sooner or later get this message.

I have only had this with captured enemy cities. I think your problem is that your culture is very bad. Build more cultural buildings (temples, library)

The people in your city are deciding they would rather be a part of a nicer civilization which builds nice buildings rather than yours :p

I'm sick of those messages too. I mean, they'd rather stay in a medieval society where the only defences are guys with swords. They'd rather not remain in a industrial/modern society where rifles defend the borders and everyone lives healthy and all that.

It annoys me greatly, even when a city I captured flips to someone else and I have Infantry to move out from that city... why can't the people be happy that I have such an advanced society!?

That can get pretty annoying.

You should either be able to turn it off, or have your soldiers start killing people until they want to stay in the empire. Or there's no one left. Whichever comes first.

Seriously, you think Caeser or Alexander the Great put up with some annoying little town bothering him every day about wanting to return to their backwards little nation after he conquered them? No way. They didn't have the guts to ask, because as like as not they would have gotten killed as an example.

If they won't let you turn it off, you should be able to do some ethnic cleansing. I mean if preemptive nuclear assaults on civilian centers, the razing of major population centers and slavery are in the game, I don't see how this is much worse....

Yeah. Haven't the testers gotten tired of these pop ups too? I get them often and my civilization, including culture, is several times better on the graph then all the others!

You can nuke your own lands now!? WOAH!!
Did I say that?

I'm not sure if you can. I was referring to the matter in a strictly ethical sense - if Firaxis doesn't have a problem with us using their game to launch preemptive nuclear strikes, or burn large cities to the ground, or kill lots of people in eternal slavery, etc, etc, then I don't see why it should be too controversial to allow you to eliminate population in captured cities until they are feeling more....cooperative. ;)

I honestly think these are a glitch...I have had cities that are totally mine, 100% mine in nationality say they want to flip. Or I have cities that are no where near the other empire, yet they say they want to flip to it. I think it has something to do with relation to the other civs capital compared to yours. Annoys me a lot though.

You can get rid of them by turning off advisor messages, but then all the messages are gone.

Yeah, there is nothing like accidently clicking the top choice, and then handing the city back. OOOPS!

Thats why its always best to kill off the country

All of you guys hit the nail on the head. I was afraid I was the only one.

whew...........LOL.

My last game I had a city that wanted to flip to the Incas which was clear across the map.

What happens to me sometimes when you get alot of these messages I just click, click, click without reading them and then suddenly miss an important message because I wasn't attentive enough.

The real Reason is that when you have a vassal, the computer think's that you should be good and nice to them, and so that message pops up like a billion times for each city  i hope they fix it in the patch.

It is Very tiresome. Especially if I built the City and my Culture is better than the so and so they want to *liberate* to. And if they ask to become my vassal why wouldn't their cities Want to join My Empire instead of the reverse? Is something backwards in the Code?

I rarely see an opponents city wanting to join my Empire anymore. But I do see plenty of the reverse now compared to all other versions of CIV.

I am a nice guy!I give the cities back to my vassals.

I agree

At least you will definitely catch their attention :D :D

I get that all the time!

The wierd thing is, I get this message on pretty much all my cities, but I'm the one that built them, and they keep asking me to give them to India, which is my vassal on the same continent! Why?

Yeah, it doesn't seem to have ANYTHING to do with whether you conquered or founded the city, whether the culture is 100% yours or partially someone else's (I've had cities that were 44% say, Mongolian, not ask but cities that were 100% mine ask to join the Mongolian empire), whether it's even remotely close to another civ to have experienced culture-creep (I wonder if it has something to do with the spy mission but if it's 100% my culture then the mission couldn't have been that successful so how does this work? Every time that mission is performed you get the message or what?)

To re-iterate if I built it, it's got culture buildings and it's dead center of my empire and 100% mine then why, just why?

I didn't see anything on this in the patch notes so I'm sure it won't be "fixed" this patch but I would like some insight onto the mechanics of what triggers this.

Even after wiping out a Civ, you'll get the same problem. Some other empire wants that city you've captured, because it'll be nice. I know I took one American city and after they were wiped out from the war, they American city wants to join the Byzantine Empire, even though the Americans were wiped out and so were the Egyptians
ARGGGHH!!!
I hope it does get fixed in a new patch or something!

They'll pay attention, or they'll be dead. Either works for me. :p

It is really annoying when they ask for the 2nd city you ever built that is also three continents away from their nearest city. Very annoying indeed.
Today I had a city that kept bothering me, wanting to join Charlemagne's empire. The thing is, though, that he never owned it - in fact, it was a barbarian city that Huayna Capac conquered, and which I stole from him. When I destroyed HC, the barbarian culture returned. So after I got that message, I checked out the city. It had 4% my culture, 96% barbarian "culture". (I still find that something of an oxymoron) Charlemagne had not culture at all in the city, and there were several other cities in between the remnants of his civ (He was my vassal) and the city in question.

I dunno, but something is screwy.
