Hi,
I have some vision problems :scan: and hope someone has the answers I seek.
  1. I have a tough time differentiating between roads and railroads. I built a small mod to correct this problem, but something has changed in version 3.17 and now my mod is not working. I want to change the base color of roads so I can tell them from railroads. Please tell me what file(s) I need to modify in BTS 3.17 with the blue marble mod.
  • When exploring with scouts, Tribal Villages are clearly marked with blue circles. How can I change it so Tribal Villages are illuminated when any unit can see them?
Thanks,

I have very poor vision too (myopic corrected to 20/20 and colorblind- I got into the Army thanks to a waiver), but not that bad. Maybe you should get one of those big magnifying glasses that goes across the computer screen? I think they sell them at Best Buy.

my issue is in the details. I used the fix suggested in Balderstrom's post and that helps a lot. Now if i could just do something about the huts...

The blue circles are assigned by AI routines - the game knows that scouts are better at popping huts, so it highlights them as a recommended destination when you have a scout active.

Since other units gave no special abilities with regard to huts, the game doesn't highlight the huts when those other units are active.

To change that, you'd need to either change the programming that controls the assignment of the circles, or you'd need to give all units the abilities of the scouts (which would render scouts less useful). The easiest solution, however, is probably to just mod the texture of the goody huts to something that stands out a bit more.

Edit: Or get the tool that Balderstorm linked, which is probably the best solution, since it allows you to tweak all other details that you might be afraid to overlook as well. :)

Also, you could send a msg to asioasioasio - he's one of the more talented graphic guys in the mods forums, and he can whip things out like crazy, specializes in buildings. He's also pretty helpful to any of the modMakers that have asked for his assistance from time to time. I can't speak FOR him, but I imagine he could/would make a modified high-visibility goodyHut if you just merely asked :-)

I had absolute perfect vision until I got cararacts in both eyes when I was about 18. I had to have both lens replaced and ever since my vision has been blurry. If I don't have my glasses on I can't really do anything up close cause I can't read any thing and it all blurs together.

Not that bad in the greater scheme of things, but it has given me a different take on programming.

I have been working on trying to get Text To Speech to work in civ, but I haven't succeded in getting the python package installed in Civ.

But, I don't have any current projects, and this would be somthing I would be interested in doing.

How about I put a new tab in the options screen where you can pick a Decal (the blue thing they put around Huts for Scouts or good City sites for Settlers) and the Color of the Decal for Bonuses, Goody Huts, Improvements, Your Units, Friendly Units, Neutral Units, and (I think this might already be in there, but if its not) Enemy Units.

And just cause I don't like concrete roads in the game or in RL, I'll prob through the change Road graphic in aswell.

Any suggestions, ideas, or opinions? :king:

I use Dragon Naturally Speaking 9.5 due to carpal tunnel. I never thought about using it in Civ...

That'd be spiffy.:goodjob:
