I've been attempting to edit terrain and unit graphics with an editing program that accepts .GIF files. I open a UNITS.GIF file which contains the normal civ2 units and then edit them, being sure to use the last three colors for border and transparent. Then, I convert it to a .PICT file and place it in the scenario folder.

The problem is, when I try to play the scenario, the colors that should be transparent appear as black. This messes up the rest of the colors too.

Does anyone know what's wrong? 'Cause I sure don't  .

Do you convert the GIF with the graphics program? 'cause if so, you need a scenario convertor to convert PC scenario files to Mac. Just look around CivFanatics and I'm sure they have one in the downloads section or something.

For conversion from .GIF -> .PICT I've been using the graphics conversion clip2gif. I know it should work because it works on all other UNITS.GIF files — just not mine.

You are sure you have the correct colour-scale, right?

It's much easier with Windows, you can even use ms paint...

Yeah, actually GraphicConverter was the program I was using to edit the files! I've heard others say it works well, but I wondered if something might be wrong with the palatte, or at least the one I'm using. I can't find any way to change the colors, though. Is there someplace I can find the Civ2 palatte and insert it into the program?

No but there is a way to insert it into the file ;)

See my screenshot bellow, I use the swedish version of graphic converter, but I imagine the option should be in about the same "place" in the english one ;)

That option I've highlighted allows you to open and save palletes, save one in a units.gif you have that works, and then load it in the one you want to use (I'd copy the contents of it first and then paste it after applying the new pallete, as changing the pallete will screw up the colours of the picture there, when you paste it into the document however, it'll work fine)

:)
