please help

today i tried to reinstall Civ 4 BTS. During the download it said it couldnt download the patch and aborted the download. Someone told me to try downloading patch 1.74 for reg civ 4 and said it wud help. while downloading this after a fresh installation of reg civ 4 it said it wasnt compatible.

any ideas?....

are these all cd versions of the game?
try installing 1.61 first then 1.74
