And posting this doesnt? You can always choose to run the regular client and then only when you're using the computer. That way, your electricity bill will only go up very slightly.
Alright well I compared last months power bill with this months bill where I kept the comp off unless I was playing games. Looks like folding runs me a whole 15 bucks a month. So release the GPU hounds I'm back on.
The 'Foldbeasts'' future home:
(Excuse the slightly blurry pictures and the crap in the background, I havent done any cleaning in a while and my camera is on its last legs)
The 3 fans -- all are scythe Kaze 1200RPM fans, two 140mm's and one 120mm.
size comparison of fans to case. As you can see, this thing isnt even quite a mid-tower. I pulled the HDD cage though, so it should have enough room for the GPU's.
I didnt feel like buying a new case and fans, so instead I took and old case and am in the process of modding it to take a 120mm and a pair of 140mm fans on the side door. The Somewhat-round hole you see in the first photo is the unfinished hole for the 120mm, Ive still gotta figure out what the best way to mount the 140mm's is. I may go completely ghetto, mount them on a piece of plywood and then cut a pair of holes in the side of the case. Gonna be fun.
EDIT - should I paint the case anything? Im thinking a bit of black will do it nicely.
And just in time to break the 1 million point mark!
And indeed, congrats on a million points!
Black works. Are there any lights in the fans or elsewhere in the case?
Ha, nice. I didn't even notice I was in that territory.
Nope, and I dont know if im even going to waste the paint on making it black. This thing is probably going to sit in the attic, so no point making it all pretty if no one will see it.
Remember pretty won't make it fold faster. The cost of rattle cans can be saved for more juice or faster bits
Can't you just turn off folding when you play?
That, and there are a bunch of different clients out there.
Still doesn't work
What shows up in the error log when you play while having the both programs installed?
*Or is this a creative way of saying you don't want folding hogging your system resources, lol*
Congrats, you have a broken game. When folding is turned off ( as in the process is terminated, the service stopped, etc), everything should go back to normal. If it doesnt, well, your computer sucks.
Got the FoldBeast to boot with one GPU ( had some funny business with that...) so it should be coming fully online within a day or two.
EDIT -- Run into a wee bit of a problem. The GX2 wont give a signal when its the primary card, but if I put it as secondary or etc, the fans on the 9800GT behind it chokes cus the GX2 is so close.
EDIT2 -- OH hell, Im an idiot. I forgot the primary display is the bottom DVI port, not the top one. Its working fine now! Time to install drivers and see what kind of results we get on FAH
Well, it is done. The FoldBeast has moved into its new home. Albeit, there's still some remodeling to do ( I need to figure out where to stick those 140mm's, since my planned location isnt going to work -- pcie cables jut out too much ) but they're getting nice and cozy (and very warm):
Yep, when the SMP on the FoldBeast gets going, im gonna be pulling 25k ppd on avg.
Wheeee!!! Do you think you'll be able to overclock the CPU or the video cards?
Tell me something I don't know.
MOO2 just freezes
Come on top 200!!!!!!
Ill try it come cooler weather. Right now its too hot for any extra heat on top of what its already pumping out.
Wow, in 8 hours I made 12k points. I couldnt pull that in a day before.
Separate names with a comma.
