Hey guys ClanSpanker here. I recently made that Mega Dots map and people seem to really like it. Which is cool, I'm glad.
I had also been working on this 3 map pack for awhile of 4 super loaded large hexagonal islands placed pretty close together. As was the style in Mega Dots every single hex has some type of food, luxury or resource on it. I posted the Mega Dots map on the Workshop here and to Reddit.com here. I learned a lot from the feedback and suggestions over on reddit. Thanks! I think that these maps are already much better this time. They could be pretty top notch if some of you guys help me a little before I post these to the workshop.
The maps are called Balanced Islands for the moment (It's a dumb name I know. Suggest a better one!) The 3 versions are regular, fast and extra fast. Regular has a couple spaces of ocean tiles separating you from the other 3 islands. Fast has some coastal waters to your closest neighbor only, and extra fast has coastal waters connecting all 4 of the islands. The biggest lesson I learned from the discussions on reddit was maximizing production too not just money and happiness. On Mega Dots everybody was super rich and happy but building things was admittedly slow. Plenty of terrain variety this time to make sure every aspect of your islands are maxed out, including production.
Any type of feedback is welcome of course, but what I really need help with are starting positions. At the moment the maps have only one starting spot on each island. So be warned, when you play test them for me be sure to set the game to 3 opponents and zero city states until I can get this issue worked out ok.
I would like for people to be able to have both extra civs and city states start on their islands with them if they like, but when I add extra spots it doesn't balance the starting spots at all. I need it to have 2 civs per island when the player chooses 8 players for example. Would want city state placement to be balanced somehow as well. Does anyone know how to make this happen?
Anyways, if any of you jump in on this and help me, I would really appreciate it. I will be sure to mention you in the Workshop notes too.
Ok, well I have attached the 3 maps. Just put the maps into My Documents\My Games\Sid Meiers' Civilization 5/Maps and they will show up if you choose advanced option when starting your game. I promise you they are already a blast with just you and the 3 opponents. It is amazing how good some of the civs are on these maps and how awful others are that I thought would do really good. Can't wait to talk about the maps with you guys! I am totally open to change anything and everything before these go live on the Workshop. I want this map pack to be as top notch as possible so that the players will really enjoy them again and again.
