Hi, I just bought Civilization IV and there is a serious issue going on when I play that game. I phoned the technical help line of theirs and followed all of their instruction... and ya their pretty much useless. The problem is after I start a game and play for say betweem 1-5 minutes, it will make make whole computer shut off... literally!, the power and everything. It doesn't even give and error window, black screen, like most games when it crashes... it shuts my whole computer off! This is the only game out of the 20 I have that does that. I tried many things like re-install all of the drivers I have on my computer, I've tried re-installing the game plus the patch, putting everything back to stock speed and running dxdiag to test everything. I mean I can't see a problem as to why I can't run Civilization IV if I can run games such as BF2, FEAR, FarCry, COD2, Guild Wards, and the list goes on. PLZ help as AI have spent $68CAN on it

My set-up is:
AMD 4400+ Dual-Core
XFX 2x7800GTX running in SLI
OCZ Platinum 2GB Dual
DFI SLI-D
Liberty Enermax 630W
Everything runs with the latest drivers!

Srry for double-post! I'm new to this forum and so furious I didn't see the Technical Support Forum. Plz forgive me lol.

Hey folks, having the same problem - wondering if someone could help me out as well

Running - 2.66 Celeron Processor
Asustek P4V8X-X Main Board with Built In Sound
1 Gig Ram
ATI Radeon 9250 @ 128 - also tried BFG 6600 @ 256 (Same thing - still reboot)

Please help if you can - Thanks in Advance

Please post your dxdiag as a separate thread, we can then have a look at it

You should be able to make the damn thing sit up and beg with that rig :)
(no consolation - but others with same rig do ...)

Check you have this driver set - important as it impliments DirectX 9.0c support for your NVidia card
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.98.html

You have a large active Pagefile (420Mb) - was anything running when you took it? If so please shut down visible apps and repost it

If not try closing down ALL background services & apps (less essential XP services) using MSconfig. If not know how to do that repost

Come back again with issues/problems

Thanks Zy.. I did post it as a sepearate thread on the 20th, sorry to double post - just really really want to enjoy this game - so addictive, but the rebooting kind of quashes the fun.

Cheers,

No worries :)

Will get on that one tomorrow - its 5:30am here - going cross eyed:)

You have a large pagefile on that post - if you were running something when dxdiag taken - close it and repost the dxdiag - will look at it in morning (later today ...)

Hi, thanx for the reply. But like I said I made sure I have all the latest drivers for everything, so there no need to look into that. But yes, I will post my dxdiag again later today, b/c I'm running some tests on my computer. I'm pretty sure there was nothing running the the background other than like MSN and AVG anti virus which I dont' imagine taking that uch space, but ok I'll shut them off and repost the file.

Couple more things to look at

- when you did the MSconfig bit- did you shut em all off (less XP services) ie tick the hide XP services button, then use disable all in Services & Startup?

- You said in post one, you play so 5 mins or so then it shuts down, have you checked heating? Card temp, cpu temp, compressed air blow clean the fans etc

- another long shot, the power consumption - what power rating is th PSU?

Regards
Zy

Ya, the heating is perfectly heathly... like I said, I can play demanding games like FEAR, BF2, FarCry for hours and hours so I dont' think its the overheating of my PSU. My PSU is an Liberty Enermax 630W, so lots of power there even if i'm running an SLI setup.

Moving down the long shot list ...

There have been some cases of the NVIDIA(R) nForce(TM) Audio causing clashes. Another board member 'Neon Deon' who often helps on the tech forum, picked this up wth a couple users. Ended up with a workaround using another generic sound driver, and therefor by pass the nforce driver.

Cant remember what driver tho .... if the above dont set off a train of thought, maybe worth PM'ing him, I'm sure he will let you know which one worked
