First full-3D game in the mainline Pokemon series coming to 3DS later this year.

For the first time in the series, Nintendo will release the games simultaneously across Japan, America and Europe in October 2013.

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata announced the game during a Nintendo Direct presentation, showing off the game's fully 3D world and a new camera. Many of the traditional Pokemon elements were shown, such as a Pikachu hidden in some tall grass.

The game will feature a mix of Pokemon old and new, and Nintendo unveiled its trio of new starting Pokemon--watery toad Froakie, firey deer Fennekin and grass monster Chespin. An announcement trailer was also made available.

Pokemon X and Y will be the first mainline Pokemon games made for the 3DS, although a series of spin-offs are already available on the device.

(I cut the part about Gamespot tooting their own horn about giving Gen V a 6.5 for lack of advancement, etc, etc. Gamespot rating having all the credibility of a politician making campaign promises)

Doesn't seem that way. It looks like they're the actual game title with actual game logos. And the legendaries in the promo video were a little too clearly meant to recall a X-shape and Y-shape. (the promo video can be found on pokemon.com)

X and Y? That sounds like a bad pretext for a horrible sex and/or biology joke than an actual game title. I can't really bash it just because of a name, though.

I can, however, bash it for the appearance of the starters. The Starter Pokémon look even worse than the last generation! Chespin looks like a non-grass type otter wearing the decapitated head and gutted body of what should be the grass stater, Fennekin looks like a bad fan character combination of Vulpix and some Gen V Poké I don't care to remember, and Froakie is kind of okay but I just kind of think they could had done better. I'm hoping that the starters just suck and that the other Pokémon will look better, but I doubt it. :(

Did they ran out of colors to chose from?

They should just go back to Gen II, only make it a fully livable 3D world experience with procedural characters and situations.

Calling Fennekin a FIRE DEER makes Gamespot's rating even less credible. It's obviously a fox. If they had a lick of sense they'd know Chespin was based off a hedgehog, and we know this because of its French and Japanese names.

As for the 3D, it's facing some criticism because fans will miss sprites. I think the 3D looks good, but I've heard otherwise.

The legendaries in the game are the best since GenIII imo. We don't really know much about the game, but the starters were generally well received. Fennekin (the Fox) is the most popular. I prefer Froakie, the frog.

We don't know much yet, but it's clear the female protagonist is superior to the skinny-jean-wearing male one. Also, roller blades.

I'm pretty sure they ran out of ideas a generation or two ago.

I'm going to assume you never played Black or White.

I assumed he meant the Pokémon themselves. Say what you will about the plot being original in V, the Pokémon were objectively crap in the last generation, which really sucked when they jammed them down our throats with the lack of any returning ones in Black and White I.

I'll admit Gen VI as of right now looks better in that department, but still no Gen I-III quality here.

The 3D is eye-gougingly jaggie. They should have stuck with 2.5 or something. Basic 3D graphics have never looked good (since they originally came out anyway).

I'm sure it won't look like that on the handheld. I'm actually excited, except I refuse to buy a 3DS.

And I thought they were done after V..... Although the Pokemon look kinda cool, they do not compare with I-III's Pokemon (espically the legendaries).

I actually think IV's designs were semi-ok. http://www.serebii.net/diamondpearl/pokemon.shtml

V was overall really really poor. There were a few gems, but... I actually bought HeartGold rather than Black at the same price simply because those Pokémon were so bloody buttugly.

New starters... Fire is mediocre, Chespin looks like fanart, Croakie seems decent, but it really depends on the evolutions.

Please let this be the case:

If those are the official Stage 2 starters I will rescind all statements that Game Freak has run out of good ideas. All three look awesome, especially the grass one.

Sadly, I doubt they're real.

They're fanarts, yea. Typical, took 24 hours for someone to think of that. >_>

Crossed fingers though. You never know.

Well, I am looking forward to it, but I like gen 3 the most an it has gotten worse with each new generation, so one can only hope it will get better.. Hopefully the rest of the pokemon look better than the starters. The water one looked like it was wearing glasses on the tip of its nose.

Why is Generation V so bad? And don't talk about the starters. I agree, the GenV starters aren't up to stuff. I don't care for the GenV legendaries either, so don't talk about them either. The other GenV pokemon were the best in the series imo.

I'm asking because every complaint I've heard about Generations III-V can also be applied to Gen I-II, sans how complex later-generation Pokemon were (and that's not even a complaint by itself).

Regarding those fake starters, I think they're all ugly.

Well, the pokemon reminded me of other generations. Pidove looks way too much like Starly, and Woobat's name reminds me of Zubat. Eventually, the will run out of ideas for new pokemon, and I think it has started.
