Hi all!

Ok I have this want(or is it a need?) for the original "Throne Room" from Civ 2 days. I did a search in this forum but got a bunch of anomalous searches:rolleyes:. so I thought I would just make a Poll/Request to see if someone else has or could, put this together?

I am probably the only person that wants it... but then again there might be more so how about a little poll also just to see how many of us would like to decorate the throne room with useless furniture again!

Yes = You would like to see the Throne Room again.
No = You could care less for this feature.
Maybe = Not sure because you never played with the Civ 2 Throne Room.

FYI, there was a palace feature in civ3 was pretty similar and offered a view of ones throne from without. It even allowed you to customize based on your culture. That would be nifty.

Sam:

Agreed, anything would be better than nothing but I like the features of the Civ 2 version the best. All things come to an end though and there does not seem to be much response to this thread so far:( hopefully this will change over the time frame its up.

BTW does anyone know how to bump this up every so often so people see it more frequently, other than replying to it over and over again?

Anyways Thanks for the info Sam.

Peace in all things
Doug

They tried to put it in but it neve made the cut ! If you are less than 20 with no coding skills, you should pass your way. If not, you could try to assemble a team like (or better than) the old one.
Sorry, I don't think this task is worth it.

Hello Snipperrabit!

I have no coding skills and am quite a lot older than 20 so I will not be doing the work myself.

As for whether its worth it well thats all a matter of opinion, hence the poll.:crazyeye:

So I will be patient and maybe the next iteration of civ will have it in...

The Throne Room was a feature that we were trying to implement in the old version of World of Legends; however, even after the mod died and was ressurected from the dead, it is unlikely this feature will be in WoL in the end.

However, I know that former WoL members dutchking and Gaius Octavius were doing some work on this thing, though I am not sure how far they got. At the least I know they did get some artwork done. If you want, you may want to contact them about this, although dutchking is retired and Gaius Octavius barely goes on anymore.

With those two being retired and not active I still will be thinking about Civ 5 maybe having the throne room put in as a switch to activate or not.

Hopefully as it was a pretty cool feature as far as I was concerned.;)

I wish we could add it in but i don't know any way

I don't know squat about programing of that nature so it's out of my realm...

I'm sure it can be done with modding being so accessible to us all though.

I'll see if I can find a way that would be a great thing to add in

Yeah! a positive note! I hope it can be done, and the stats are climbing it seems. Too bad for the guys who don't like it... Maybe we can force them to like it...:borg:

Its not possible to force someone to like something
or is it... ::dunno:::scan::borg::assimilate:

I'm sure some drone could write a bit of assimilation code to go into the civ 4 community and get the job done...:mischief:

Never played Civ 2, so I don't quite know what you are talking about.

But if it's similar to the throne room from Civ 3- which someone said it was, then what you probably would need to do is add a screen via python (accessible via one of the buttons on the top menu), and add some functionality to that.

So, basically, it would be all python coding in the interface stuff. And graphics for it, of course.

We had some thoughts in the german forum about that, and came to the same conclusion.

Technically, it wouldn't be really hard.
Like said, you need a screen (hardest part, i guess).
Then i'm sure, you could convert the palace part graphics from civ3 to .dds files, which could be assigned there.
Then you need an onMouseOver function, which displays the parts, and onMouseClick to make them permanent.
You would get new parts/the ability to add new parts after a "we love the xy" day, or something like that (and this are already the less important functionalities).

It would just need time...and that's the problem.

A possible starting point could be the starship screen, as this screen already has 3D models you can choose and change. On the other hand, including such a 3D view may make everything way more complicated.

Cheers, LT.

I wish I could help but I know almost nothing about python

I thought more of plain 2D.
I don't think, that there is enough art for it, and it would make the developement more complicated.

Time to start learning ;).

I guess, a project like that would need a whole month (for me). I don't have this time atm, but i'll maybe grab the project in 2 or 3 months, or so.

I don't have that much time on my hands either

Basically the same thing, though it has been some time since I played with either version since I have had Civ 4 since its incision. (all others pale by comparison).

I have seen the python stuff but have no clue what it might be like. I have some basic working knowledge of basic, machine, and Html, with a few bad attempts at java scripts, but thats my ONLY knowledge and not going to be much use here except to maybe say Kudos when its is finished and hurah's while it is being done...
