There always seems to be one reason or another that I can't stop playing. I think my biggest reason for that "one more turn" frame of mind is when I'm dying to see if I build a great wonder before a rival civ. But there are plenty of other reasons...

If I start building a wonder, the only things that will stop me from seeing it through in that sitting are sex and beer.;)

"one more turn" for me is simply finishing a stretch of road, or getting a unit into a city before it goes into disorder. In short - minutia. (Yes I am doomed)

It depends at what stage of the game I'm at. If it's early on and i'm at war, I like to destroy that civ before finishing. Problem is as long as i've got enough troops left, I'll move on and try to destroy another civ, which i want to do before finishing. If it's later on on the game, I want to make sure i've finished building the wonder(s) i'm on. The problem with this is that i've normally started building another one before the first one is finished.
:king: Unfortunately my last turn often lasts 3 or more hours.

It definitely depends on the stage of the game, the time of night, how much coffee I've consumed and what's going on in the game at the time.

I may OMM (One-more-move) to finish a road from here to there, or start a city, or wait for a tech, or defeat a city . . . ANY benchmark will do as a reason for OMM . . . the REAL cutoff point seems to be when I just can't physically go on any further! <gg>

You left out one of the best reasons to keep playing... because I don't want to go to work yet!

What happened to "none of the above"...i will say "one more turn so i know that this island is uninhabited" and will end up either a) exploring the whole island or b) conquoring any or all civ's on the island...:D this game is WAY too adictive:confused:

Ditto. Just things like finish a cerain city improvement, get the settler to the right spot and found a new city, finish terrain improvement, etc. ad infinitum. :crazyeyes

I think Civ III is far better than sex. The way I priotitise is thus:
1) Beer
2) Sleep
3) Food (esp. Christmas Dinner.....yum)
4) Civ III
.
.
.
12) Sex

I like to plan far ahead in games like civ so I always make up some vague mental excuses about finishing a few things that I might otherwise forget the next time I load my game. Like waiting a few turns to renew a trade deal or make a production choice. This can be stretched really far late at night...

Then when I load my save game a few days later and take a look at it I mostly find that what I was planning the last time would lead to inevitable disaster. So whenever I load a saved game I usually rework my long-term plan completly. A then I always play thoose extra "one more turns" to make sure I have everything set up for my new plan to work the next time I load the game...

Did that make any sense at all:confused:

Usually waiting to get that next piece of technology to allow me a technological advantage over my numerous enemies :D And that race is pretty long indeed :)

This isn't exactly the same thing, but I have certain points where I'll stop playing.

New era
Finishing an important wonder, such as the Sistine
End of a war
Final preparations for a war have been made
Relocating the capital with a great leader
And once in a while, actually winning.

Great poll!!

I voted for Wonders, but the second most common problem is hitting a policy goal. For example:

I tend to set a date for my next new government, and getting to it (e.g. Republic by 1200AD) or whatever keeps me playing

Or something diplomatic/military, starting I war I have planned to start, or ending one, or colonizing a particular space.

Or when I need to secure a new resource that I don't have.

In short, I hate to leave when there is still a direct element of suspense.

So, in short, I hate to leave.

That's basicly it ,and it's probably the reason why i (and prob. most of the people around here) started to play civ in the first place.

Or it's something more like if i can't rule this world you atleast want to rule youre world.

I usually set a plan for my wars, so for me, one more turn lasts until I have fulfilled my objectives, or I hear a call from the bedroom......and how could that guy rate sex as 12th? That is mind-boggling!

With me it is ussually because I have a little dude waiting for me to move him!!

Just one more turn. Then the end of turn stuff comes up and I set my next production for my cities. Then this little worker dude is waiting to move. So I send him over to mine that hill. Then this other worker dude wants to do something, so I send him over to build this stretch of road. Then my Cavalry dude wants to go somewhere so I send him off to a border town. Then Joan of Arc wants to chat, so I play hard to get and don't give her anything. So damn, I will finish this turn.

So the end of turn stuff comes up and I got a new science, pick a new science to go after, change my city production. Damn pollution!! And just what are heck are the English guys doing out by my border. Got to look after that polution. Then this little worker dude is waiting to move, so I send him to that pollution. Then this other little worker dude wants to do something so I send him over to the pollution to. Then my Cavalry guy wants to go so I send him over to see what the heck the English guys are up to. Just one more turn I guess.

And so on, and so on and so on.

I get so immersed in moving my units around and into the game that I lose track of time. I also forget to do stuff in the game all the time. Kind of like I will make a mental note "must see what kind of luxeries are available next turn" or "have to check my science rate next turn" or whatever. Turn comes and goes and I forgot to do it so make a mental note for next turn. Forget again. Dooohhh.
