Should era stop be an option in Civ7, especially now that civilization switching is mandatory?

  • Yes, let me stop the game at Antiquity and conquer the world as the Romans!!!

  • It would be nice if it was added as an option, but I will still enjoy the game without it.(50/50)

  • No, I want to be able to progress to later Ages in all of my games.

I would like for once to be able to stop the game at a specific era and win there with my preferred civilization, without the game forcing me to progress to later eras. I'm one of those people that find modern civilizations less interesting and eras beyond the Medieval aren't to my liking, except the Giant Death Robot Era of Destruction:borg:.

There was a mod that did this in Civ6, but wouldn't it be nice to include this option at launch for Civ7, especially now that civ switching is mandatory? What do you all think, will such an option solve the fiasco with the mandatory civilization switching and make the game more interesting and fun to you if you could just play as a specific civilization in a specific Age for the whole duration of a game?

I believe you can have a game that ends in any Era. (and/or starts in any Era)
If you combine that with a "Keep Playing after the Victory/Crisis" possibility, then you could have an eternal Rome Game, as the time ticks up to 3000 AD under the great sword wielding Legions....
Of course, you can't conquer the World in Antiquity because you can't cross the oceans, and even conquering the "Known World" would be hard with the low city limit. However, perhaps Rome could rule the known world by slaughtering (or enslaving) all the other major civs, razing their cities and maintaining a network of strongly allied vassals for the Independent people (if Independent people pop up in empty spaces.....assuming you can actually make empty spaces by Razing cities.... you should be able to in the Ancient Age.)

If you start in the exploration or modern age, do you still start with just a founder unit or do you start with some cities already built?

Ed Beach did say you can choose to play one Age, or play all three as part of a grand campaign.

There's a moment in the trailer where you can see the option to either start in the Antiquity Age or Exploration Age or Modern Age when setting up the game
If that's the case then the option might already be there. Do you know the exact time when this is shown in the trailer?
