Go tell that much to the entire population of Japan this morning while they righfully expect the usual Humanitarian Efforts Canada provided & still provides worldwide.
We have troops in constant stanby for such events.
Katrina Hurricane got some, Indian Ocean Tsunami even more.
WE (TOO) the people are always ready.
Go ahead, Canada bashing is in fashion and it gets you noticed on the www.
The reality is different than a short list of direct insults such as what you just spilled on everyone as sulfuric acid.
That is one of the most selfish and disgusting things I've ever seen on the internet. I hope you hang your head in shame you...
I mean really, who the hell do you think you are to try and turn the suffering of another nation into some kind of argument here? Really? I'd also point out that Canada aren't even that renounced in this region (or in fact mentioned in anyway) for their humanitarian works. We all know Canada does, but they aren't some Holy Super Humanitarian state that is above all others, so stop speaking like it and show some respect for the families and people who have suffered this week and don't use them in your selfish arguments!
Sometimes on the internet you get deluded and hope for sensible resonable arguments, but at the end of the day people just slip the dregs of poor arguments around and use the suffering of others, of which they have no understanding as some kind of argument.
Yep, it is sooooo strange to suddenly realize that most regions are frozen to the ground yearly for about 5 months, isn't it?
Most regions? Really? I challenge that!
Of the 148,940,000 km^2 of surface area on the planet you are suggesting that at least over 74,470,000 km^2 of it freezes over for ~5 months in the year. Let's see what actually does. Let's take the stupidly high overestimate and take all of what was the USSR, Canada, half the USA, Europe (which will cause an overcount) and of course Half of China along with Argentina and New Zealand. This comes to a grand total of the extreme (as in it's actually going to be less than 50% of this figure) overestimate of: 55,333,500 km^2... or ~37% of the Worlds Surface... And that's for the extremely overestimated version! Even if that's your definition of "most" then I now understand how you could ever think that it would be best for "most" civ players to have Canada rather than one of the 44* potential Civs I mentioned, which I would point out that you didn't even respond to one of let alone all 44. I guess when you are face with something against you though its easier to just avoid it. Ah facts, arguements aren't as much fun with them are they mate?
Let me state it differently then...
It is simply a matter of definition, complex, relatively personal, self-endulging, protectionist, emotional and above all - NOT necessarily having some international impact on a cultural scale *ONLY*.
The melting pot is always boiling on this planet of ours; some would think Polynesia is a great way to provide a diverse gameplay feature others disappointed *THEIR* own favorite Civs (again, define *it* before even trying to start an argument on its relevance) are either going to have to wait for inclusion or never be inserted in some official permanent status of being worthy.
You see, my friend, if it were just me i'd prefer *TWO* specific leaders per vanilla Civs (one wish being... to provide equal gender representation, yeah that's right -- Wu, Lizzy, Cathy, Isabelly and many more gals!) than any additional DLC for any given price.
And, let's be honest... the mod community is there to supply about 250+ more if there is demand for that much. Again, personal agendas.
I buy these, cuz i'm a modder and feel Firaxis deserves my money.
I'd have taken Vikings (or even Norse whatever fits your silly academia snobby principles) even before England, France, India, Germany, Arabia, Spain, Russia, Siam, America for historical reasons.
To me... Egypt, Rome, Greece, China, Japan, Aztec, Iroquois, Inca, Polynesia, Persia, Babylon, Mongolia, Ottomans, Songhai belong in a *DIFFERENT* timeline category.
Mixing Canada or ****ANYBODY**** else fits the above in either of the two areas only.
If America is there, any modern Nations (and quite frankly there are plenty; USSR collapse, ex-Yugoslavia) that reached independance since have the exact same right for a Civ slot.
There are plenty more considerations to justify such status, one of which is Marketing & the other, certainly not preference.
But when people seriously bash my Homeland (sounds familiar?) online that's where i get off the bandwagon. Wanna know why?
Time is a trail of people's struggles with the neighborhood. We stand right now (on guard, strong & free) between two nuking arsenals swimming in subs while a few more show off their military might; Vikings didn't have to unless driven by specific needs.
Rome fought the French_Gaul & England were once Celts.
And as President Obama said this afternoon; Humanity is one (taken into context of more than just a game of Civs).
Who is "bashing" your homeland. I hope you didn't mean me because I really like Canada, I just don't see it as really being a "Civ". Am I bashing my own homeland when I say they should be in it either?
Anyhow, to say "Well the US is in so why not other modern nations like Canada?" is the most rediculous argument I've heard from you yet, and you have some faily tastless and poorly formed arguements. Let's compare the two here:
The American Revolution is one of the defining moments in the Modern World. Canada became independant in the 50s and it didn't change anything, let alone the World.
America is the single biggest Economy in the world and currently its greatest and still arguably its only true super power. Canada is a decent economy and important within its own region, but is only mentioned briefly in most contexts and tacked onto the end of something about the US.
The US was actually an important political force since the time of Napolean and their revolution was one of the driving forces behind the ideals that sweapt through Europe. Canada... Well...
Canada is a better place to live on average however, and if someone gave the choice between a nice house in Canada, the US or a crap one on Nauru (which incedently was made of cowpats and had a leaky roof) I'd definitely choose Canada, then it'd be a toss up between the Cowpats or legging it from that US house to Canada. Whilst Canada is a great place to live that still doesn't make it a Civ in the sense of the game, and that is the issue here. Unlike the case here for Polynesia, Canada also fails to add any extra dimension, that is it, they are just Canadians. Again, it would be like throwing Australia in.
Look, if you want an actual debate on the matter, it would be better for you to have actually responded to the list I put up rather than sitting in the corner shouting about how everyone is mean to Canada. The only thing that achieves is to show how touchy you are about how small Canada is on the stage.
Also, on all the important Canadians, everywhere has important people and inventions, I could go on for days about the Australian innovations that people just assume came from America... That doesn't make a Civilization in the games sense.
