My wife was struck by the "bouncing to oblivion" that affects 10.4 machines that installed Quicktime 7.6. (Boy, was that a long couple of days). Someone on the Apple support forum has posted a workaround for the issue. It has resolved the issue for my wife. She did say that it took about a half hour to do but it did work.

Here is the link to the post about the workaround.

Here are the instructions:

download an older version of QT here:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/QuickTime_7_3_1_for_Tiger
Using Pacifist found here:
http://www.charlessoft.com/
Open the QuickTime731_Tiger.pkg file and used Pacifist to install the older QT over the new one. All you have to do is select replace when asked about files that are already there.

I don't know if you could download a newer version of QT and have it still work. Good Luck! Alpha Centauri or Bust!

I just did this, and it worked like a charm. All you have to do is highlight the full package and click install.

This was a very good idea, and because of it my conquering of the world can continue. Thanks nbloom!
