I always wonder: how many peolpe get their entertainment by going to the colosseum ?

We don`t have one where I come from. Nor anywhere in the vincinity...;)

How about the colosseum looses effect partly with time (but still gives culture - think of archeological digs and all the tourists coming). But at the same time you can build theaters/operas, later stadiums and cinemas........
Would make a lot more sense!

Also "Public schools" could give economic benefit (i.e. reduce corruption and give 2 content people).

And how about "TV towers"? They should give +2 culure/city AND 2 happy faces.......

Take a look at the colosseum in the modern era and see what it looks like.

How about a Mega Mall? It would increase commerce.

Maybe a Sportsplex could replace the aging colloseum.

In the ancient times a Gristmill could supplement the granary. It would add to food production (if that's possible) but would require a granary as well as a river within the city borders.

A smithy could add production. Requirement would be iron in the city radius. Becomes obsolete when you discover coal.

I wish courthouses generated culture points. I always thought a country's legal system had a great impact on its culture. Of course, in certain countries it actually seems to have a negative impact on culture when people start sueing over spilled milk(or coffee).

Seems to me Firaxis has made an ironic overlook when developing Civ 3. I would bet that a lot of the posters to these forums get their "entertainment" from VIDEO GAMES! Why not have a tech/wonder after Computers are researched that allows the build of a Video Game hall of Fame or a Firaxis studio, Doesn't that make sense? It could provide the same hapiness as the Gardens, as by this time, they are useless.

I would like to see an an Olympic Stadium for a wonder (2 happy people on th same continent).
Also what about an Exabition Grounds for happiness and culture:goodjob: :goodjob:

Oh, lets see,

How about "Beer Hall" or just "Bars" for a CIty Happiness improvement, building one makes one unhappy person content? (But limit one per city!) Available immediatly after Temples! (ie Ceremonial burial) but cost only 30 shields!

Concert Hall- Adds 2 culture points- but cheaper then a colosseum. Only available after researching the Music Theory advance.

Sports arena- available after The Corporation- makes 1 content citizen happy, but increases resource waste in that city by one shield, and corruption by 1 gold!

Beltway- after Motor Transport- Increases commerce by 50%

Rock Band- makes 2 content citiizens happy, but reduces shield AND commerce by 2 shields/bushels. Available after the Radio Advance.

Frat House- makes one content citizen happy, but reduces shields and commerce by 4 shields and 4 bushels. Can only be built where a University has already been built.

I better stop here before I get into the truly decadent ideas, like the Opium Den or the Bingo Night Parlor ...

 :D :D :D :D

Things like tv and sports arena should reduce shields somehow. Think about it, all the time one is being entertained, you arent being productive.

Whatya think?

Okay, so there's a harbor for naval units and an airport for air units but a single barracks can train everybody from a stone throwing warrior to mechanized infantry?

Stables - Builds veteran horse units (chariot, horseman, knight, cavalry)
Motor Pool - Builds veteran mechanized units (mech infantry, tanks, modern armor)
Bombadier School - Builds veteran bombard units (catapult, cannon, artillery, radar artillery)
Barracks - Builds veteran foot soldiers only

Can anyone think of a better name for Motor Pool and Bombadier School?

Why is there no "R" in bombadier when they are using bombards? Shouldn't it be "bombardier"? I pity people who take English as a second language.

I think there should be a museum which generates culture points - lets face it, that is where tourists go to learn about the nation's or cities culture.

hmmn maybe this would be also dependant on which civ you play, for example a public school in china can give greater science and literacy, even lead to greater shield production, maybe if it was an american one, it could lead to less literacy, less production, and more crime. :goodjob:
