Here's the release schedule for the DLC that has been announced so far. The release dates and number of packs are visible on the Nintendo store. It says Feb 6 for release because of the early access options. Crossroads of the worlds is released in only 2 stages, which suggest that the civs/leaders are strongly connected to each other. In contrast, Right to Rule has 7 packs on 6 different dates.

Edit: the actual content on Nintendos site isn't detailed yet. The only "new" information (to me) is that the fog of war cosmetics change per era. All the non-cosmetic packs don't have an informative description yet. It just says more content that will be revealed later.

That’s surprising since the website mentions sept 2025 for the right to rule DLC collection

edit: and also mentions 6 dlc and not 7 ?

Can you link this? I can’t find it on the Nintendo site.

It's on the Nintendo wahoo website. Go to Civ7, Menu, then select the DLC tab, and it has all the DLCs. You have to go to each DLC separately to get the dates etc.

iirc it says *until* September.

And yes 7 DLCs per collection, but 4 civs and 2 leaders. I assume the 7th ones are separately sold scenarios or map packs. On the website this goes under "and more!" I assume.

Several day one DLC packs, cosmetics, and what appears to be a years worth of DLC scheduled to be released within months of release.....

This doesn't bode well for the future
It doesn't for sure. On the good side: in the past, none of the civ packs for V and VI were in any way essential to enjoy the game. I would even say that for VI, you didn't need to invest any money besides the base game to have an enjoyable game. For V, I would never recommend to play base game only, for VI, I can't stand most the expansion features. I hope it will be similar for VII: lots of DLCs to choose from, but none are essential.

I think this is misleading.

There are cosmetics now, yes. You don't need to buy them.

There is no day 1 DLC--there are pre-order incentives, which are not new to Civ. Aztecs were for Civ 6 as well.

The first DLC comes out about 1 month after release, which is literally the exact same as for Civ 5 and Civ 6. I don't see how the monetization is any worse than what we got for the 2 prior games.

How does planning for DLC in general bode poorly? It bodes well because it shows they're committed to long-term development of the game.

I couldn't find any information on the website. But I did find the release dates already on the Nintendo eShop on my Switch.

Not individually but the estimated release date for the whole collection: Which is 3/25 for Crossroads and 9/2 for Right to Rule.

Civ’s been doing that since V, calm down lmao

There wasn't day one DLC for V.... the first two civziliation DLC packs came out a month after release and one was completely free including a scenario pack.

There are apparently 16 different products Firaxis plans on selling as DLC within the first month of release of VII....

See the difference?

that’s cap

And that link doesn’t even mention Babylon, the bigger piece of day one DLC

I'm not even sure what those complaining about this bog-standard DLC set-up want to see. Do you want no DLC?

One gets the impression that if there were no DLC on the horizon, these same folks would be bemoaning the lack of support. "Wow, Firaxis knows this game is going to fail and isn't even bothering to assure players they'll keep developing this game after release. Hard pass (again)."

It seems like there's a crowd that Firaxis simply cannot win with.

Heck, that old system that still exists in a few places, where there is dlcs for unique shops, is even worse than the more common for nowadays, as it would make it so you would need to buy multiple versions of the game to get all day 1 content, while generally needing to wait a while to get those sold separately, if they were at all back then.

Well if you're counting preorder bonuses as day one DLC (i'll admit I forgot Babylon and the map pack no one plays were preorder bonuses) even then VII's steals the show including early access, two new civs, four new leaders, and cosmetics all as day one DLC with 16 other items being included for sale within a month of release as bonuses if you preorder even more expensive editions of the game.

again a drastic difference in scale

The right to cash in! 😲

That's a boatload of DLC right off the hoof.
