I'd like to hear all your ways of keeping your precious CDs safe. Area, place, laying (flat/vertical), temperature, magnets etc...

    :)

CDs are pretty tough. Avoid excessive heat, fast changes in temp that could warp them, chemicals that will eat the plastic. Magnets won't affect them at all, freezing won't hurt them as long as they're warmed up before playing(don't want condensation inside your player). Store them in a way that will prevent scratches, either in a jewel case or a good CD book. Flat or upright shouldn't matter as long as there's no uneven pressures on the disc.

Backing up your data/music wouldn't hurt either :) That way if your originals get damaged, you'll still have access to your precious data.

The only thing you really have to worry about is scratching. Everything is insignifact. Don't do anything stupid like put your CD's in asid and you'll be fine.

    What? Sure you can.

... unless you live in some weird backwards place that doesn't respect your fair use rights.

It would be legal, but civ IV may have some protections against it.
