-Prethread- NCNESIOT: Blackened Skies

The major reasons why your economy is not as large is mostly because of the issues regarding your supply lines and the loss of various key industrial and economic centers.

like access to the entire pacific except through freakin canada

Federal US still has Panama, doesn't it?

Probably. All of their colonies are loyal, which leaves me baffled as hell.

I'm not talking about the US economy which seems fine. I'm just asking why say New England has nominal GNP as large as mine and the Enclave has notional GNP/GDP again as large as mine (and like half the size of say France). I understand GDP (PP) is just a function of GDP and Base cost so that's fine. I'm just interested in why that's the case.

The West Coast isn't as important in this timeline I think. It's really quite small compared to OTL.

I've read it. I'm just asking for a worked example. This is quite beside the weird industrial values.

GNP = IC (All) * Base Cost

GDP = EP (Total) (function of population/development (IC))

Hence you should be able to calculate GNP from the given stats and infer GDP (in some sense) from your EP and Tax Power (although I know you guys aren't slide rules so that's a bit more of an unreasonable request). Because GDP(PP) and GNP involve Base Cost they don't scale linearly with nation size.

In order to model the US civil war I have re-assigned the US to a new Region that should be penalizing your income, to the effect that your GDP should seem somewhere between 33%-50% of what it "should" be. Although now that I am looking at the world file, I can see that I've shorted you some stuff unintentionally. So. I'll give that stuff back to you and re-process the stats when I get home.

New England and the Enclave are situated on two of the most developed areas in the United States, but New England might not be supposed to be that way, so I'll leave that as an open question for Nuke.

West Coast is indeed supposed to be poorer than OTL, by the way.

Crezth - When you work on the world file, could you please also make sure that:

- Ruhr's leadership is Average instead of Poor (as per update);
- GFA's doctrine is updated to Vernichtungsschlacht (as per communication with you and Nuke).
- GFA's military buildup is updated as per my last turn's orders. My current stats show same number of divisions and planes as I had last turn.

Got it - thanks. Should be up now.

Huh, cool. Wouldn't have thought Virginia and the Carolinas would have been so industrialised.

I also need to think of a better doctrine name.

Only because napalm bombs/fuel air bombs aren't still in fashion. By 1950s, however, ha, just watch!

@all, since we've had a week since the last update and the rules are explained, are you open to having the due date be Sunday, June 26th? If not, I'm open to having orders due the Friday after, but let me know now so I can better plan :)

Aren't we still waiting on the final list of social programs/reforms to be published by Crezth? I think that's the only gray area in economics at this point. Other than that, June 26th sounds reasonable.

OK everyone the Social Programs are up. Here is a link. And here is a spoiler for the page:

The social programs have also been added to the official PDF ruleset which I am updating to be more in line with the new standard rules, so expect to see that tonight.

The costs shown are "Average Costs". In practice, random events and other circumstances will manipulate the true cost, which will always be shown on your pricing sheet.

"Economy" stat should be moseying in eventually. I still need to balance and tweak the varbs there.

This next update, we'll be rolling out some cool new changes to the following rules: Doctrines & Tactics and Technology in what I am currently referring to as the Krieg und Wissenschaft Update.
