Here is one way to definitely end the debate of whether or not polluted squares (pollution that is not cleaned up) adds to global warming:
Make a map with a very large continent that has pollution on every square. Also, make sure no civ starts on that continent. If you get global warming while in the ancient era or middle ages, then you guys are right and polluted squares adds to global warming. But I suspect you won't get any global warming until the industrial age.....
