Prince Build/Wonderaholic cure New SG'ers welcome

Got the save. Won't be able to play until after 7:00 PM EST.

Played 15 turns. Made a couple of minor :smoke: mistakes, but nothing too terrible (I hope.) Looks like another Civ is relatively close by.

Check the cities. Everything looks fine. Here we go...

Turn 170 (400 AD)
Merit Ptah (Great Scientist) born in Mecca
Could found an Academy or discover Mathematics. I choose the former.
Damascus grows: 8

Turn 171 (410 AD)
Mecca finishes: Academy
Medina finishes: Lighthouse
Damascus finishes: Hindu Temple
Memphis finishes: Work Boat
Barb. Warrior emerges from "The Cirque"... and is defeated.
Swordsman defeats (6.00/6): Barbarian Warrior

Turn 172 (420 AD)
Medina begins: Granary
Damascus begins: Library
Memphis begins: Library
Tech learned: Code of Laws
Confucianism founded in Thebes
Confucianism has spread: Thebes
Move missionary up to Mecca (Why not?)
Memphis's borders expand
*ACK!* The fish outside of Memphis already are worked! So we didn't need the work boat after all!
Thebes grows: 7

Turn 173 (430 AD)
Research begun: Masonry
Masonry -> Monotheism. Masonry will also allow us to start on the Great Lighthouse
Memphis begins: Courthouse
Thebes finishes: Library

Turn 174 (440 AD)
Thebes begins: Courthouse
Memphis grows: 3

Turn 175 (450 AD)
Tech learned: Masonry
Hinduism has spread: Baghdad

Turn 176 (460 AD)
Research begun: Monotheism
Research begun: Hunting
Tech learned: Hunting
Whoops! Looks like I accidently selected Hunting instead of Monotheism. :smoke: Funny, I could have sworn that I chose the latter...
Mecca finishes: Galley
Medina grows: 6

Turn 177 (470 AD)
Research begun: Monotheism
Mecca begins: The Great Lighthouse
Medina's borders expand
Memphis grows: 4

Hello? Who's this?

A light blue border to our west. Looks like America!

Turn 178 (480 AD)
Confucianism has spread: Mecca
Medina finishes: Granary
Confucianism has spread: Medina

Turn 179 (490 AD)
Medina begins: Courthouse
Mecca grows: 7

Turn 180 (500 AD)
Tech learned: Monotheism
Decide not to revolt to Organized Religion because of poor economy. Thought it best to wait until a few Courthouses were built.
Memphis grows: 5

Turn 181 (510 AD)
Research begun: Mathematics
Mathematics -> Calendar
Thebes grows: 6
Thebes's borders expand

Turn 182 (520 AD)
Thebes will exceed happiness limit next turn, so...:whipped:
Thebes finishes: Courthouse

Turn 183 (530 AD)
Thebes begins: Confucian Temple

Turn 184 (540 AD)
Damascus grows: 6
Damascus finishes: Library
Memphis grows: 6

Turn 185 (550 AD)
Damascus begins: Courthouse

Damn! Just realized one (and only one!) of the forests in Mecca could be chopped to speed the Great Lighthouse along. (Only get health benefit from 2.) Also could chop forest NW of Damascus, but not sure to which city the hammers will be applied (probably Damascus now that the cultural borders of the two cities overlap.

There you have it. After Mathematics, then Calendar, we should head towards Optics for Caravels (need to contact other civs and spread that ol' time religion!) As soon as our Courthouses are up, we can think about settling the a few more cities on our continet - particularly yellow dot to bring in the sole Sugar site to the SW.

Here's the save:

Well as Idle has said he is out of the loop for a couple of days the roster now looks like:-

UNC Penguin In the Chair
Ralph - Up next
Idle - Let us know when you are back so we can slot you in.
Lampness
Lobsterboy

Patch.

Can we canvass views on upgrading to the Patch. Let me suggest we will only patch up if people want to; otherwise we will stick with 1.52. I am happy to Patch if peope want to as we will need to at some point as it will become the default. However I am also happy to finsih this SG on 1.52 if desired.

Strategy

We are still in a bit of a commerce hole until the Courthouses come in. Some cities can :whipped: them in others need to Build them normally as they are still suffering from :whipped: unhappiness.

UNCPenguin will need to look at in on a case by case basis. If you want advice let us know. :goodjob:

Wed can'ft afford new cities at the moment even though we have some nice sites available.

We may wany to disband some old units to reduce Unit costs which are quite high.

Research

The Mathematics - Calendar path looks spot on to boost our happiness + a little extra commerce.

Following that I think we have to bee-line to Caravels and make contact with the outside world for Tech trading - other wise when we meet them they will be :borg:

Regarding the patch, I can't upgrade to the new version without coordinating with the members of my other SG.

Also, because we now have two Holy Cities, we really should try to spawn a Great Prophet for our next Great Leader. Mecca currently has 1 Scientist and 1 Priest specialist, so the odds for a GP/GS are 50:50. We might want to remove the Scientist for a time to skew the odds in favor of the GP, or we could just take our chances. Regardless, do NOT drop the Priest specialist.

Only a few fogbusters are needed. Any unpromoted Warrior who is not contributing to a city's happiness could be disbanded.

No worries, we are galloping though the turns. You are only up as Idle is off to the Uk to watch football!!

Ralph

Ok So looking around / goals: Research Finish Math and try to shave a turn or 2 off.
Great Prophet....Courthouses

(0) 550 AD
I move a citizen from the clams to a cottage to allow it to grow and to slow down overall city growth, they are pissed at the whip and at max happy.
Whip courthouse in Memphis. cost 2 but will grow in 2. Also whipped courthouse in Medina
Deficit down to 1 a turn @ 40% research.
Reposition swordsman to clear fog in corner. Math back to 11 due to whippings but will drop with growth hopefully.
ok <enter>

(1) 560
Hey we are in the green now with some courthouses finishing and math is back on track with 9 turns to go.
Temple in Medina begun.
Shouldn't we be building farms around baghdad so we can use the hills? I left them as cottages for now

(4) 590
Chop finishes near mecca to cut the GL to 14 turns.

(6) 610
Damn GL BIFAL. but puts us up to 199 in the bank so a little deficit research opportunity.
We were going for the lighthouse a little late it felt like. And its not like we have to build wonders so only a small set back.
start a temple in mecca instead.
Temple complete in medina ->galley. er we cant reach anything with galleys so i start a settler for future use.
Temple done in thebes -> barracks
Whip courthouse in Damascus have it building a barracks just to place hold, very vetoable but i didnt want to stall growth on a settler. its growing super fast with 10 surplus so itll be back to normal soon.

(7) 620
mas cottages por favor.
(8) 630
all this time i realized i hadnt put research up.....guh my bad. up to 70% at -8gpt a turn, math next turn
whip library in memphis. its very unhappy at whip so stopping growth with 1 turn left...chack back once they return to normal so it can grow again.
(9) 640
Math is in calendar will take 11 but this should drop as libraries come in and cottages grow etc...
Ok i was pretty sure i stagnated mamphis, but maybe the food que was completely full from the whip so naturally it grew, so they have a pissed citizen.

Currently we are researching calendar due in 10 at 70% research and -6gpt with 198 in the bank. Hope i didnt screw up too much.

We could afford to run more in the red if the next player thinks its necessary.
Mostly I just had workers building improvements/clearing jungle.

save and photos coming soon..very soon.

Here it is:

So lets look at our starting position economically and research wise.

So we can see,

1. We are holding our own against the AI lagging slightly in GNP (and hence potentially in tech) but up with the pace in Production. Population, land area and soldiers not really relevant yet.
2. Producing 60 Beakers per turn which I think is pretty good at this stage.
3. We are supporting more units than we need and this is costing us 7 gold (10% of the gold we produce so needs tackling)

Production
Mecca, Memphis, Thebes and Damascus are “running” out of useful things to build!!

Baghdad still has lots of growing to do and a nice future. Going for a Granary at the momen. Needs to be MM to maximize foiod and could do with a farm alongside the cows to accelerate growth, Will be ready for :whipped: in the next turnset.

Priorities

1. Spread our religions
2. Don’t let our economy worsen (see below)
3. After Calendar hook up spices et al and bee line for Caravels

How

1. We need missionaries but Organized religion is expensive so
2. Kill off surplus units to fund the switch to org religion and get Missionaries going

Turn 1 Kill off the surplus Warriors, rearrange other troops and switch to Org
Religion . The net cost is positive with 4 less warriors and + 3 civic cost.

Start Thebes spreading Confucianism, Damascus, Hindu while Mecca finishes its temple.

Now our Great person pops. It was a 50/50 between prophet and Scientist and we hoped for the prophet but got. The Scientist – this is still not bad as Thebes will benefit from an Academy.

Turn 2- 7 :coffee:

Turn 8 Calendar comes in and now we beeline to Caravels. If somebody disagrees with this lets discuss it before changing research paths please.

Keep spreading religion.

So at the end what does it look like?

Well we have

Mecca & Memphis with both religions, Hindu Missionary on his way to Medina.

Thebes building a Conf Missionary for Damascus, The first one failed to spread

Mecca Building a Hindu Missionary for Thebes

Medina building a Conf Missionary for Baghdad

Then our religion spreading will be complete.

Damascus still has happiness problems but Spices are busy being hooked to to solve this.

Other workers are clearing Jungle for Yellow Dot

And one is heading his way to the Incense near Memphis (forgot to do this one straight away  must have been :smoke: )

This is how our economy looks now

Still holding our own against the AI

At a sustainable 60% Research rate we are creeping up with 66 Beakers

Compass is due in 7 which will let us build Harbours ready for contacting other Civs.

Turn 0
Turn 1
Turn 2
Spread Hinduism in Medina failed...
Turn 3
Turn 4
Mecca built a hindu missionary, sent to Medina.
Turn 5
Turn 6
Hinduism spread in Medina.
Compass comes in, Metal Casting due in 10.
Started harbour in Damacascus.
Turn 7
Turn 8
Started harbour in Mecca.
Turn 9
Spread Confucianism in Baghdad.
Turn 10

Basically, all I did was build some farms/hook up luxuries :). Not much else to report.

Oh, Damacascus is missing confucianism (but a missionary is on the way). Same story with Thebes (missionary on the way).

Well we a redefinitely in a fairly quiet building phase now.

Plus Side

We have two Great Prophets on the way to build our shrines at which point we can move in quite a few Scientists and Pop Great Scientists to move us up the research tree.

If we are first to Caravels we should make sure we have missionaries ready for them to transport as we might still find civs we can launch our religions in.

Minus Side

A financial Civ has pulled out a wee lead in GNP.

Where are we?
Looks Like Cyrus has gone on a wonder spree (Parthenon, Our Great Lighthouse  + stonehenge.

We also have Saladin, Isabella, Germany and China for company

Damascus needs some MM as it is unhappy and working more food than it needs and could be generating more commerce with a tile swap. Dont know when last whipped but could whip in its harbor at some point soon withb its spare  citizen

We should ensure Damascus gets a confucian temple in the future so we can have two priests and accelarate the Great Prophet.

Lobsterboy as we haven't heard from Idle guess you are up next

I'm back. Well sort of. Can play tomorrow night.

Haven't read the turns yet, but it seems we are moving along nicely?

New patch, eh? Won't be able to test it until tomorrow, so I have no opinion on it yet.

And Stoke lost 2-1 (bloody ref  ), but it was a good game nonetheless.

Let me know about the roster.

Okey dokey. Since idle won't be active until tomorrow, I'll pick up the save and play tonight. Mail dial-up connection from home is not working, so I may not be able to post until tomorrow AM (Eastern Time).
